“Great stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

We were guests at a wedding that was being held at the hotel and stayed for 3 nights. Jeannie at the front desk was incredibly welcoming and warm and even helped us to upgrade our room for a very reasonable rate.

My wife used the spa once and was very impressed. The food at the restaurant by the pool was all very good, and all drinks were expensive, but stiff.

The Mares restaurant breakfast was also worth the money. Everything was on the pricey side, but that's to be expected and in most cases was worth the money.

Every single member of the hotel staff that we talked to from the bellmen to the beach attendants were some of the nicest people we've ever met.

This is a decent hotel, more like a Marriott than a Ritz. The service was absolutely excellent. The prices here were pretty excessive. The hotel has a very nice pool as well as great beach access. You are cabbing or driving to anywhere in town as this is not really convenient to Old San Juan etc. The room was clean but just ok. The food was alright but not worth $40 per meal. The workout facilites were decent. It had pretty much everything you'd need for a business trip. It is about two minutes to the airport but you really do not notice you are that close - there is really no airport noise that is noticable. I did not go to the casino but it looked like it was a decent size. I do not know that I would stay here again.

The Ritz in San Juan is an excellent choice for luxury accomodations in Puerto Rico. The Hotel is five star, elegant and with the serice to match it. I travel to San Juan on business at least 8 times a year and the Ritz is the way to go. Two things you nee to take into consideration when staying at the Ritz are location and room selection. The hotel is located in Isla Verde, which is central to everyhting, however, it is not in a walking friendly part of town. This can be important at the time of dining options as the hotel has two restaurants (both excellent) that are pricey. As for the rooms, they can be inconsistent as some need TLC. In my recent stay , although comfortable, the TV did not work properly. My experience has been that, generally, lower level rooms need more attention than the higher floors.

In the end, the Ritz is a great option for in San Juan.

Sitting here listening to the couple next door fight. Hotel security was alerted thirty minutes ago! Security has yet to respond. The walls are paper thin. Old decor. Much more like a Fairfield Inn and Suites - this is a three star hotel at five star prices. Not worth it.

I admit to being a hotel snob but this is not a 4 or 5 star hotel and certainly does not live up to the RItz Carlton standard. We stayed here for a long weekend in May. They hotel was packed, the food was awful and extremely over priced. The best food we had was at the chicken shack across the street. The towels were old, the grounds and the rooms looked dated. Bed was uncomfortable. I haven't stayed at other hotels in Puerto Rico, but if this is what the RItz is like I am scared to see the others...

Excellent service as usual at Ritz Carlton.
The club level was amazing.
The beds are second to none. The feather bed and sheets are just heavenly.
The recently redone spa was a nice surprise and the massage was wonderful.
All in all, a fantastic experience.

In my 1st trip to PR, we were celebrating our 5 year anniversary. I didn't want to screw up by getting a bad hotel so I paid extra for the Ritz. The hotel was more expensive than a lot of 4 star beach hotels, but they made it totally worth it! They were absolutely accomodating and truly made us feel like their special guests. It's 5 minutes from the airport and in a very nice bay. The premises, rooms and staff all met and exceeded the Ritz standard in my opinion.

We ate the breakfast buffett one morning, and it was delicious; however it was also very expensive. There are two local places nearby to eat breakfast for cheaper: Piu Bello and Las Carenias (sp? new.) BLT is a great place to eat and for a 5 star steak restaurant, is in line on price.

We were there for four nights including the weekend. The weekend was very crowded, but we expected such. It was good that we got out to the beach early and nabbed a free chair and free umbrellas (nice to not pay for those) on Saturday morning and didn't feel cramped at all. The beach wait staff visited reasonably often and we ate lunch on the beach two of three days - split our meal and REALLY enjoyed their frozen drinks (both with and without alcohol). They also have plenty of free small water bottles on site - again, a good feeling that we weren't paying for every little drop of liquid. Other reviews for other hotels complained of such.

My wife did get a massage from the Ritz Spa - although the Spa was finalizing some of their renovations, they look great! We still give it high marks for what we can tell it will be when completed.

Enterprise Rent-a-Car is onsite as well and if you book online you can save. We ventured out on one day and had a blast!

One other plus was that there was a Walgreens within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. My wife loves her Diet Cokes, and we could buy 16oz bottles and snacks at a "normal" price.

Overall, I would say we paid extra for the accomodations, which were totally worth it, and the surrounding area has some amenities that made it much more "affordable" in the end.

Room Tip: The city views of their rooms not on water front are surprisingly nice.
