Recently came back from Puerto Rico, and visited La Playita twice. The first was at night for dinner, every restaurant is on island time, which means everything takes some time. The atmosphere at the restaurant is cool. It was great to sit so close to the water and have dinner. The coco loco drinks were excellent. The mofongos were so so. Someone else's review was correct that the mofongos were dry but I did find the meat part to be very tasteful. Dinners took a long time to get but we expected that so made sure we ordered apps to keep up busy. All in all, everyone went home happy that night. Probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is picky or in a hurry.

Don't be put off by the neighborhood around this place or Hotel La Playa for that matter. If super casual surf side dining or cocktails are wanted, this is a good place. We had an excellent breakfast of omelettes, potatoes, bacon, pancakes and fresh fruit as good as anywhere and sat right above the surf rolling softly in. This is a definite top choice. Will try later today for cocktails and sunset.

Our awesome waiter from another restaurant had recommended we come to La Playita for dinner and drinks. While the view was great, the service was super poor. Our waitress seemed to have very little knowledge of the food and beverages. To make matters worse, it took over an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. I had a hard time understanding how a veggie wrap could take over an hour to prepare. We waited over 30 minutes for our drinks...Our experience was very unfortunate and very overpriced.

La Playita was recommended to us by people who had been before so we went with high expectations. We arrived thinking we were in for a real treat. It is located at the Eastern end of the big beach that runs the length of Isla Verde. From the outside it looks like a charming building and is quite inviting. Once inside we were ushered to an outside table on a covered terrace that was OK but hardly atmospheric. I suspect at lunch when you can actually see the Atlantic and the almost constant sunny weather it would have been more pleasant. At night, unfortunately, it is more like sitting in someone's open air basement.

Service was slow and inattentive although very very friendly. When our servers were around they were very chatty and pleasant but even getting drink orders in when we sat down took quite a lot of gesturing on our part. Speed isn't something you expect at any restaurant in Puerto Rico and this one certainly met that expectation.

After hearing about the Mofongo, a traditional Puerto Rican concoction where plantains are mashed and formed into a sort of bowl in which meat or seafood stews are served, several in our group decided to try them. This was a mistake. I had the seafood one which was tolerable but not that tasty. It was mostly calimari that had been overcooked and was very rubbery. The shrimp were OK as were the mussels but the plantain part of the mofongo was inedible. It was very dry and flavorless and almost impossible to cut, even with a knife. I had a couple bites of it and gave up.

I think the people who came for lunch and had burgers had the right idea for La Playita. It just doesn't cut it for dinner.
