What a lovely place !!
Food is outstanding and price matches the quality in my opinion so check out the menu on your visit is a must - to be honest it's a foodies delight and the in house beer to match.
The location is a bit out of the way and you can't walk to town but that's another excuse to eat on site !!
Quirky little pub I'd say
The rooms are spotlessly clean , amentites are great , beds very comfy and the family room is large.
Breakfast was included in our stay and was lovely ,hot and fresh but I would suggest some fresh fruit wouldn't go astray..
Elderly or Disabled may find the internal stairs quite steep but both levels can be accessed externally .
We can't Thank "Chelsea" enough for her personal and professional assistance when we had to rush my toddler son off to hospital late at night her sincerity was so much appreciated at such a stressful time - hold onto that staff member she is a delight !!

Overall all staff were friendly and approachable ..

Thumbs Up from the Foodie :-)

Stayed for 2 nights at the Brown horse inn as part of a wowcher deal. Fantastic little place with a lot if character & very modern rooms with lovely bathrooms. The food in the restaurant is expensive, but you know how much it is before you order, if you don't like the price, don't eat there! Breakfast was good & all staff are lovely....except the owners, who probably haven't smiled for a few decades. But you don't see much of them and the rest if the staff make up for it. Just a bit too far from windermere to walk which is a shame but with a price so reasonable for the quality of it, you can't complain.

We visited the Brown Horse for a pub lunch - and what a lunch it was! We sat in the bar, where dogs are welcomed, and within minutes were joined (on a very wet day) by a pair of damp and friendly springer spaniels. It's that kind of place, and if you don't like dogs ( we do) you can always be a little more splendid in the dining room. I had the ploughman's, and it must be one of the best there is. Home-cured ham, deliciously moist pâté, two cheeses, mixed leaves, home-baked bread - it just went on and on. If I had to find fault, I would prefer not to have my bread buttered: butter on the side please! But such a tiny criticism of an otherwise memorable lunch - made perfect by a pint of their best bitter. Brewed on the premises? Of course it was, and very very good too. The staff were courteous and cheerful - what's not to like? As others have noted, this is not the cheapest food in The Lake District, but in my view it is most definitely not overpriced. Yes you could easily find a cheaper ploughman's lunch, and possibly a cheaper pint too, but why navigate all those country lanes for that?
As another reviewer pleaded, please don't go to the Brown Horse for a drunken revel - we might be there at the time!

We had a terrific two night stay at this Inn and would visit agin for sure. The atmosphere in the bar and restaurant was welcoming, cosy and staff were all very friendly ( apart from the girl at reception when we wanted to check out who was quite curt and not at all friendly but perhaps she was having a bad morning).
We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was really good, the best whitebait we've ever tasted and the price seemed about right. Breakfast was really good too, we liked the ideology they have for using just very locally produced ingredients most from their own estate, a really nice individual touch.
Price wise I've based the rating on the deal we got which was £99 for 2 people for 2 nights B&B.
There's very nice gentle strolls on the door step for after dinner/early morning walks, we were very lucky with the weather which allowed us to enjoy drinks on the terrace.
All in all we enjoyed our stay here immensely.

Room Tip: We were in a room at the front right above the Inns entrance, no.2. The room was very spacious with a vaulted ceiling and we had no trouble with noise from the inn. The en- suite was very clean and spacious with a lovely big walk in shower.
