“Good location, good service, well equipped”
Reviewed October 18, 2010

We enjoyed our two night visit to the Ferrycarrig, well located about 7 km from Wexford on the banks of the peaceful River Slaney .

Our room and bathroom were spacious and comfortable and equipped to four star standards, apart from the soap and shampoo containers bolted to the wall and limited flat storage. In-room WiFi was free. The view from our balcony was peaceful and the general atmosphere relaxing, except late on Sa when wedding and partying guests created a lot of noise in the public areas (although we didn't hear it in our room).

The hotel looks ideal for a family, with extensive leisure facilities and play areas.

Breakfast is an adequate buffet in a well-designed restaurant with good views but its presentation lacks elegance. The table d'hote dinner was ok but expensive and it didn't quite fulfill the expectations suggested by its somewhat pretentious menu.

All the staff we met were exceptionally friendly, professional and willing to help. Especially at our departure, the front desk seemed undermanned for the volume of work it had but the one person there battled on cheerfully.

This is not a luxury hotel but it's a genuine four star and a good choice either as a base or a destination. Recommended.

Dear Guest,
Many thanks for taking the time to write your review.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us at the Ferrycarrig Hotel; we not only pride ourselves in making your stay a comfortable one but also to offer you excellent service with friendly, efficient staff.
In relation to your comment regarding the soap/shampoo dispensers, at Ferrycarrig we are trying to reduce the effect we are having on the Environment we do Business in, we are actively working to reduce the amount of packaging we receive in (most of which is recycled) and the amount of Rubbish we send to land fill, to achieve this we have decided to follow best practise in Environmental Management by using Dispensers for Soap, Shampoo and Shower Gel. This is only one of many practices introduced to the Hotel to reduce our Footprint on the Environment.
Your views are extremely important to us as it is only through feed back from pro active guests like your selves that we can hope to maintain the high standard for which the Ferrycarrig is renowned.
Kind Regards
Jeanette O'Keeffe

On the plus side, this hotel has a stunning location overlooking a beautiful lake, which on a clear autumn day is amazing. Unfortunately the rooms are all overlooking this view, and the outside part of the bar area, which must be very noisy in summer. My room (208) had a lovely view, but while I had a window, I was surrounded by balcony rooms on both sides of me, so once I stood at the window I felt a real lack of privacy. I was also overlooked by more rooms to the left, where part of the hotel jutts out with more balcony rooms - so if sitting in bed, I could see into rooms from most sides, and presumably, they could see into mine. I also found the bathroom to be of poor quality, with soap, shampoo and shower gel firmly nailed into the wall (it's a four star hotel lads - if you don't want the customers to rip you off then charge lower prices!!!), cracked tiles, grout and a grubby shower curtain. One niggly thing that wouldn't bother everyone was the two separate cold and hot taps - so I either had scalding hot water or freezing cold - annoying when removing my makeup!!! There was also a helpful "for sale" notice in the bedroom - you could buy the facecloths for five euro, the tissue holder for twenty five euro - ie if you steal anything this is what we will charge you! The worst part of the room (and to be fair, the actual bedroom was quite nice, if a little worn) was the fact that it was inter - connecting with room 209. There is absolutely no sound proofing between the two rooms, so much so that I could hear the other guest clear his throat, and at half five in the morning, have sex over and over - while this isn't the fault of the hotel, the ease with which I could hear, certainly was. I could even see the light from their room round the door frame in mine! Overall though the hotel is nice, I had some good bar food and the breakfast was okay. If it was a LOT cheaper, I would stay again, but at 150 euros it is WAY overpriced.

Stayed here on Saturday night 9/10/10 . On arrival given very warm welcome .We stayed in a deluex room which was very nice overlooking the lake ,the bathroom needs updating but other than that very nice . Dinner was grand no complains there . Went to sleep and woken up by a fire alarm , twice . I rang down the second time no answer after ringing 5 times kept ringing out . It stopped and tried to go back sleep every 30 minutes or so doors were banging . Got up for breakfast at 9am all fire doors still closed , Why? . breakfast was self service it was okay , left standing waiting to be seated for 10 minutes why we waited for a staff member to seat us in the empty restaurant . We Checked out & brought our lack of sleep issue to the reception received a very very cold response . Personally i think there's is a lack of management and customer service within this expensive hotel .I found most of the staff very nice and friendly

Dear Guest,

I would like to thank you having taken the time to complete your trip advisor review regarding your recent visit to Ferrycarrig. We very much appreciate all feedback which assists with reviewing and improving hotel services.

My sincere apologies that the Fire Alarm system went off during the night. An incident occurred where a break glass unit was broken and a smoke detection head was activated. The night porter on duty replaced the glass and reset the alarm. The fact that a smoke head had been activated caused the alarm to go off a second time. This was rectified the next morning by our maintenance department who were then able to reset the alarm and magnetic doors. At no point was our fire Alarm system compromised.

We take very seriously our responsibility to provide you with the highest possible standard of Customer safety, care and service at all times. We all work extremely hard to ensure our guests expectation are not only reached but exceeded. I am disappointed that we failed in some areas on this occasion.

Should you decide to visit Ferrycarrig again please contact me directly here at the hotel and I will make all the necessary arrangements for your stay and ensure that your next visit is the success you are entitled to expect.
Kind Regards,
Jeanette O’Keeffe,

We had hoped to spend three nights at Ferrycarrig but in the end we moved on after our first night. Our de-luxe room was spacious but was let down by black marks on the wall, stains on the ceiling, dirty glass doors and windows onto the veranda, but the killer piece was the channel of dead flies under the window.

Our complaint was immediately responded to, initially by a member of housekeeping and then by the assistant manager. We were offered another room which had similarly unclean windows but, with the promise that they would be cleaned (and they were), we accepted the move.

Having been installed in the second room, we then discovered that the broadband port in the wall was broken and our laptop was unable to pick up the hotel's weak WiFi signal. To be fair, the manager offered us the use of his laptop which was able to register one bar of signal but obviously all our work was on our own laptop so we had to forego the offer, though it was appreciated.

We were offered a drink 'on the house' and set off to the bar for our evening meal. Neither of the two bottles of Shiraz noted on the Wine List were available. Our food was acceptable but nothing better than the average bar meal.

With our minds made up that we would move the following day, we left to make a short reconnaissance of the local area after which we retired to our room to watch TV before going to sleep. But on turning on the TV, we found we had neither picture nor sound - just 47 channels of haze! Did we call and complain? No - we pulled up the covers and waited for a new dawn.

On our way down to breakfast next morning, we observed that the tray of unfinished chicken dinner we had observed in the corridor the previous evening still remained undisturbed, and was still there when we left to check out.

The receptionist was most apologetic at checkout and suggested that maybe we should leave the bill unpaid pending review by the manager. But we politely declined her offer and paid our dues. The receptionist proposed to have the manger call us but no contact has been received at the time of writing.

So, for us, Ferrycarrig was a most disappointing experience. The staff tried to resolve our specific issues but the overall atmosphere and environment in the hotel (didn't experience the spa so cannot comment on that aspect) just failed to salvage the situation.

We have just returned from a nights stay in Ferrycarrig. It was a special occasion and we mentioned this when booking our room. Not only did the General Manger upgrade our room at no extra cost but on arrival there was a lovely box of chocs and a balloon in our room. A card was also posted under our door to wish us a happy anniversary. This hotel ticks all the boxes. I first went to the hotel possibly 35 years ago as a kid and was always impressed to receive an easter egg for breakfast on easter sunday! We continued to visit the hotel through the years - even celebrated our honeymoon there! It goes from strength to strength and every visit is special. The rooms are fab, the food is great and the atmosphere is second to none. Staff are so friendly and helpful. This hotel ticks all the boxes. Thank you to all concerned.

Being a frequent traveller to Wexford I thought I would try out this hotel. The service from staff was top class and friendly at all times. The room was spacious and very clean with a great view. My 4 year old is still talking about it !
