We secured a supervalu deal for the hotel a few months ago. We based our entire summer break around the 3 days we were to spend at ferricarrii hotel. We have three young children and have stayed in the best and worst of hotels in Ireland. I had stayed at this hotel for work a few years ago and expected a high standard. On arrival, we were told the kids club wasn't available to people on our 'package' and we would gave to pay E7.50 per child per day, even if only for 2 hours in the evening. It was available to everyone else. When we went for the 'free' meal included with in our package, we were given a really limited menu for 'our package' but we could upgrade. Children were not included on the meal - by the end of it all we paid E80 for this 'free' meal.

Not one staff member said hello or welcomed us in any way - I felt we should have had yellow pack stickers on us by the end of the stay. No one was kind to the children or made them feel special - the kids club staff passed them several times.

We are not mean people, we had already spent 80 the first night on a bar meal and E80 the second night. I also used the beauty salon. But by the third night, we were fed up with the hotel and ate in town (great family meal in a place called the chocolate box). What made me write this review is so minor but important - all other children were given blooms leaving but mine were not (you guessed it - not included on 'our package'). What a joke.

I don't see the point of a hotel doing value breaks if they then treat visitors like that - better to refuse business they look down upon.

Dear Sharon,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I am truly disappointed to read your comments. Presently, we are accommodating a large quantity of guests booked through Supervalu breaks who have all been extremely happy with the hotel & service provided. They have also taken to Trip Advisor to acknowledge this.

Please be assured with over 270 guests in the hotel daily, we do not offer different levels of service to guests staying on different packages. All guests are treated exactly the same and I am really surprised to hear that not one person welcomed you or greeted you during your stay. Our staff are exceptional service providers and we receive numerous compliments daily regarding the friendliness of our staff.

We are extremely proud of our Kids Club facility which offers parents approx 8 hours of Supervised Childrens Activities daily, except on three days during the week when it reduces to 6 hours to accommodate a hired Entertainer - 'Giggles the Clown' For all guests booking through Supervalu, there is a nominal charge of €7.50 per day, slightly less than €1 per hour to avail of these facilities. We offer this service especially at night times, to eliminate hiring a babysitter at higher costs. We do state this information in our confirmation letter sent to all arriving guests. Guests who book directly with the hotel are charged for their children's accommodation which includes Bed, Breakfast and full access to the Childrens Club.

As you booked your break through Supervalu, I am sure you were aware of their policies and booking procedure which clearly states, 'Children under the age of 12 stay free' No where in Supervalu's literature does it mention three children's meals are included in rates. The Supervalu breaks available at the moment are €129pp 2BB/1D + 3rd night free for two adults.

Finally, I sincerely apologise that your children did not receive balloons on their bedroom door. It is our aim that ALL CHILDREN leaving the hotel receive departing balloons and for this, I am extremely sorry for the oversight. Please accept that it had nothing to do with how your booking was made, as I have stated, it is extremely difficult to be aware of each guests reservation method during this holiday season.

Thank you for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to Ferrycarrig Hotel in the near future.

They say that the people in it make a house a home. Well the same thing can be said about the Ferrycarrig - the staff make the hotel a genuinely nice place to stay. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The Ferrycarrig Hotel is perfectly located on the River Slaney. Every room has a view of the River. We stayed for three nights, food was good and rooms were clean with comfortable beds. We used the gym which is well appointed and the pool - both excellent facilties. Parking was not an issue. The staff are very service oriented - its clear that this is a big focus at the hotel . Perfect spot to base yourself for a tour of Wexford, Rosslare, Our Ladys Island etc.

Just home from our 10th annual trip to the Ferrycarrig and am happy to report that it is as good as ever.

We got a free upgrade to a room with a balcony and for once we had the sunny weather to sit out on it!!Room was spotless and towels were a decent size( not like some other places where the bath sheet is more like a facetowel!) The hotel has a good environmental policy, so rather than individual small plastic bottles of shampoo etc, there are dispensers on the wall. Good strong shower and a bath that was quick to fill.

Breakfast was busy, with plenty variety, but don't leave it until the last minute or you might have to queue. The hotel supports local suppliers in a big way and the bar food and dinner menus reflect this. The pork belly cooked with cider and the peanut and choc chip iceceam (sounds vile, but lovely) were my favourites.

As we were travelling as a couple without kids, we were glad to see that the child free part of the bar is still available. The kids' club seemed to be a big hit with parents and children alike!

Pool, gym area is still very well run and again, spotless.

I would suggest that you look for a room on the 4th or 5th floor if you like a quiet space. The rooms on the ground floor open onto the lawn ,sounds lovely until you are undressing and find kids peering in!3rd floor is on the same level as reception so can be busy with through traffic.

The owner of the hotel group,(former Wexford hurling manager, Liam Griffin) was around at least two days that we were and takes a genuine interest in how people find the hotel and enjoy their stay,a good sign,I think.

Looking forward to our next visit already!

We went (family of 4) for a 3 night stay beginning of July. The hotel reception was great, friendly and very welcoming. Our 2 kids settled very quickly with having the novelty of bunk bids which they loved. The location of this hotel coming from the north was so easy to find plus the food was fab, breakfast and dinner had great variety and great service!! If you have kids this hotel would definately suit as the kids club and "Giggles" were great fun for them (6 and 3yrs old). The location beside the water is idyllic we had great weather which was a bonus!! The rooms were clean and spacious. We would definately reccommend familys and business reps ref free wifi. Thanks again see you soon.

Americans have always heard the coined phrase," The west is the best." It is true the west is magnificent with all its glory; however, the southeast should be added to the most see list as well, especially The Ferrycarrig Hotel. It was a God send. We had an unbelievably incrediable time there. The end of our wonderful Ireland trip was to include a short stay in Scotland which unfortunately fell through leaving us a few days to kick back. Since we saw everything there was to see in in the west, we left Dublin to travel south. We loved staying at the B&B's because meeting the people was just as great (if not better) than all the beautiful sights. Stayinging at a hotel, we feared would lack that personal interaction. Were we ever wrong! The Ferrycarrig Hotel was a little slice of heaven and the perfect spot to spend our remaining days in Ireland. Driving up to the hotel was as if someone magically drew back the curtains to this outstanding hotel adorned with the most beautiful flowers located right on the river. As we walked into the hotel, we were immediately greeted by Tracy who was an absolute angel. Tracy welcomed us and offered places for us to visit such as the lighthouse and The Irish Heritage Park. Amy and Amanda were sensational too! They were all so polite and accommodating. Our rooms had breathtaking views of the the beautiful grounds and the water. Our first night was spent having a drink outside overlooking the river watching the skull teams train as we listened to the music being played in the bar. That evening we met the most colorful and delightful couple, the Smitts who live right there in Wexford. Mrs. Smitt kept us laughing to the point of tears as she told us the most wonderful stories of her life. We thought the next night would be a quiet relaxing one enjoying all the beauty the hotel had to offer. That was until we met the Floods. They were attending a wedding that evening. Talk about welcoming us with open arms! They were awesome!! Meeting the Floods and the wedding party was the piece de resistance of our holiday!! Just minutes after meeting the Floods, they had had everyone gathered around and the fun began. He had the the brides uncles and her cousin playing songs and ballads on their flutes. What talent!! The fun only continued when the men started singing Irish fun songs. Their voices were incredible, however Flood's voice was the best. He sang a couple solos and the words were too funny! His awesome wife even sang for us! The entertaiment was phenomenal!! We loved every minute. Then the mother of the bride who was the national clogger champion performed!! We thought we had died and gone to heaven!! When it was time to return to the ballroom for the brides's first dance, we were prepared to say goodbyes when they insisted that we join them. The fact they we weren't appropriately dressed was of no concern. They wanted us to experience a true Irish wedding and did we ever!! The band was fantastic and the people treated us like family. All I can say is the Irish know how to put on a great wedding . Best wishes to the bride and groom!! Love, Paddy , Mary jean and Kathleen Reilly
