“Super accommodation”
Reviewed February 17, 2014 via mobile

We visited Quamby as part of our trip down the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide.Although it was a little off the main route, it was certainly worth driving the extra few kilometres. The Homestead is beautiful and is being gradually restored by the owners, William and Ailsa. The accommodation is separate from the Homestead and has all been renovated to a high standard. We stayed in a Mews room, and it was very comfortable and well equipped with everything you could need. Guests have use of the lounge in the main house and you can pick up wifi there. Breakfast, which can be full breakfast or just Continental is excellent and is served in the dining room or on the terrace overlooking the garden. The gardens are beautiful and you can spend time walking around the grounds. Apart from natural wildlife, there are also some hens, alpacas, a goat and some cattle.
Whilst Quamby is surrounded by open countryside, it is only about 25 minutes to Port Fairy and Warnambool. A very relaxing and different b & b to visit.

Stayed here with friends after a day spent touring the Great Ocean Road. What a find. We arrived quite late but were still given such a warm welcome. The owners are clearly passionate about their home and love sharing it with their guests. Wish we had taken note of the fact that light evening meals can be provided as we would have chosen to do this, giving us more time to enjoy the homestead and grounds. Cannot fault the rooms. Very clean and comfortable. Microwave and Fridge provided. The owners seem to have thought of everything and provide bottles of water cold in the fridge. Can't wait to go back. Next time we will stay longer and will make the trip especially from Melbourne just to enjoy the peace and tranquility. We still cannot believe how reasonable the price is. The breakfast was excellent.

Room Tip: Any room would be good

We are so pleased that you enjoyed the warm welcome after a long day on the Great Ocean Road. Hopefully on your next visit you will have more time to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the homestead and gardens (November / December best time for the roses!).

We now offer a range of simple bar snacks & desserts available evenings with 24hr notice required (if possible!) and as a licensed venue a selection of beers and wines.

We look forward to your return visit and a warm welcome is guaranteed!

Quamby Homestead was a stopover for us on our trip from Echuca to the Great Ocean Road. We stayed in Mews room one which was 3.5 star quality and very clean and comfortable. I enjoyed chatting to William about his past in England and how they came to buy Quamby Homestead. Ailsa was also a pleasure to talk to at breakfast the next morning relating some of her life and information about the area. The reason I booked accommodation here was the homestead. The beautiful architecture of the exterior cloaks the romantic grandeur of the interior. This is a truly magnificent example of early Australian upper class country living and is surrounded by well designed, manicured gardens. Highly recommended.

Quamby is a beautiful colonial homestead, which is being lovingly restored by its owners. There is nothing old fashioned about the bedrooms which have been comfortably furnished, clean and with a good en suite. Best of all was the welcome we received. We were encouraged to walk around the grounds and explore the gardens, the roses were all in bloom when we arrived. William had plenty of time to talk to us and could not have done more to ensure out comfort.
I highly recommend this place.

Thank you for having the time to write a review on your stay at Quamby Homestead.

When greeting guests on their arrival we always like to explain some of the interesting history of the homestead, the gardens, the 2km walking track starting at the dams, the wildlife and the farm animals. We like to personally show our guests to their rooms located in the gardens separate from the homestead.

The perfect time to see all the lovely colours of the roses is November and December in the front homestead garden, but anytime you can guarantee a warm welcome from your hosts!

This inn is a real find. My then-fiance (now husband) did all the planning for our trip, and when he told me about this place I was a little skeptical. All our other stops were on the coast or in major cities, and this was a bit further off the beaten path. But my tune changed as soon as we arrived... turned out to be my absolute favourite stop on the whole trip!

The hosts were lovely, the grounds so beautiful, and it didn't hurt that we were the only guests there at the time (mid-week, off-season) so it was delightfully private. We walked the grounds during the day and again at night to look at the stars. The food was delicious as well.

This house has quite a back-story, as do the current owners. Make sure to hear it when you go.

My only slightly negative comment is that, even though the room was clean and modern, the one we had at least was a bit small (we didn't really have anywhere to put our suitcases so they ended up on the floor where we had to carefully climb around them). Also, I was personally disappointed that their swimming pool hadn't yet been approved for guest use lol (although I'm sure it's open by now!)

Details aside, I would revisit this homestead in a heartbeat. Thanks for a great stay!

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Quamby Homestead and that you were pleasantly surprised! Although in the bush (countryside) we are only 25 minutes from Port Fairy/ Warrnambool on the coast.

The mews rooms are the converted former farm workers accommodation and the rooms are built within/ on the former building footprint. Thank you for the comment regarding your suitcases as we really want to ensure our guests are very comfortable and have a truly memorable stay, we have been sourcing some luggage benches which will be in keeping with the room decor to make the rooms more comfortable.

You must come back and visit again when you are next in this area because as soon as the pool is approved for public use we will announce it here on Trip Advisor!

Thank you for having the time to review your stay with us at Quamby Homestead, it meant a lot to us that your stay was so memorable.

I absolutely love the room we stayed in. Cosy, very clean and recently updated. Unfortunately, we had arrived in the night, and bad weather the next morning prevented us from exploring the grounds as we had initially planned. The hosts were pleasant. And the lady host spent some time with us during breakfast, talking about the history of the homestead, which was very much appreciated. Wish we had more time for a longer stay. This place certainly deserves a second trip someday!

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the Mews twin bed room, even on a cold spring evening the heating in the room ensures a cosy stay. Sorry that you could not enjoy the 2 km walk around the dams and paddocks due to the rain & wind! Hopefully on your next visit the weather will be perfect to enjoy the botanical gardens around the Homestead and the wildlife along the walking track. The Homestead is `rich in history` which we enjoy sharing with our guests. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Quamby Homestead.

Hidden from the road, this beautiful, historic homestead is a delight to visit. Accommodation is separate from the homestead, with guests drawing room and dining room within the house. Breakfast was true country style (and size) and nothing was too much trouble for our delightful hosts! Our rooms were clean, roomy and comfortable. A wonderful place to stay, highly recommend for a taste of the past, with all modern conveniences, in the magnificent countryside of the Western district.
