We stayed here in July 2018 as a family of four (children are 10 months and 2.5 years).
Prior to leaving England I contacted the owners/representatives and asked if there was a cot available in the villa. I was assured that there was. However, when arriving at 8pm there was no cot. I asked the owner about this and was told that there was not a cot. I was very concerned about this as there was no where safe for my 10 month old to sleep and it was already past his bedtime. I rang the number of the representative to no avail. Thankfully, although not ideal, a neighbour let us borrow their cot. I have no idea how we would of managed if it was not for this neighbour. I am disgusted that this happened. We booked the villa through home and away (owners direct).
The villa is very small. You have to walk through the second bedroom to get to the third which is not ideal. The kitchen is the smallest kitchen I have ever been in. What makes it worse is that every cupboard, even the oven is stuffed full of pots, pans and general useless items. We had to stack our food on the table. There are no windows in the bathroom/ensuite and the bedroom windows are tiny so not a lot of natural light gets through.
There is an issue with ants in and outside of the property. There were ants in the bathroom and around the pool as well as where we parked our hire car.
There is a private pool which is lovely. Our children absolutely loved splashing around and we were able to spend a few days lazing around and playing.
A car is essential if staying at this villa. The villa is in a small village, above the owners pizza shop. There is often noise coming from the pizza shop in the evening which sounds like scraping chairs and banging noises. These sounds disturbed both of our children on an evening.
On the street is also a small supermarket, a bank, taxi rank, bus stop and pub. The pub is right next to the villa. There was also noise coming from here most nights. Unfortunately one night the noise continued until 3am so if you do choose to stay here bring your ear plugs. Unless of course you're not coming with children and can join the party.
The advert does not state that the owner lives right next to the villa. This would not have been an issue for us. However, we noticed that they came into the villa when we were out for the day, which we did not agree with.
The owner also came around the pool every morning and cleaned the outside table, floor etc. I'm sure she felt she was being helpful (she seemed very friendly when saying hello when we saw her most days) but we just felt as though she was invading our privacy and made us feel most unwelcome. Although check out wasn't until 10am the owners were preparing the pool/cleaning for the next holidaymakers at 7am on the day of our departure. I felt this was most inappropriate as they should have waited until we had left.
On a positive note Croatia is beautiful. There is so much to see. The view from the villa is lovely, which is surrounded by mountains.
On arrival at the villa, some time later than expected due to incomplete directions, we were pleased to find a clean, furnished villa in line with the adverts.
After a good nights sleep and waking to a lovely view of Gruda and the mountains, we quickly realised that a number of things listed as being there were not: no barbecue, no dishwasher, no coffee maker, no toaster. We are not the sort of people to let this sort of thing affect our enjoyment but note that the villa is still listed on multiple sites as having these things even when the owner says it would be a problem to have them. The kitchen is also very small, so this villa would really suit somebody who wanted to eat out every night rather than feed a small family at the villa. There are some very good restaurants (Koraceva Kuca, Konavoski Dvori, etc) nearby so it could be done.
The villa is on the high street above the owners pizza shop and its proximity to the high street means that on a number of occasions we were confronted with strangers walking through the villa plot as a shortcut. Other than one night with very loud music coming from the restaurant, the nights were usually peaceful and quiet.
Location, was good with local shop selling basics and bureks. This would be a good base for Montenegro, Dubrovnik, Peljesac peninsula. Kupari, Cavtat and Mlini are all close as is Sokol Grad where a real character, George sells local honey, grappa and ornaments. For anything North of Brela, the Drive may prove too much.
Overall, great location, okay villa. Some honesty over amenities would help!
