Hotel San Gabriel is a wonderful, unique experience. The hotel was once a private home and is still owned and run by that family, so staying there is more like being hosted by warm and generous locals than by an impersonal tourist hotel. The rooms are all special and the common rooms--most of which are still furnished as they were as a home--invite conversation and relaxing. The staff can help with any question or request, and the hotel itself is perfectly located close to all the main sites, but off a small street which keeps the rooms quiet and private. I can't think of more perfect lodgings to suit such a beautiful place as Ronda.

We were very happy to stay at this beautiful hotel, located in an old mansion or palace in the old Andalusian white hill town of Ronda. The staff was one of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever experienced. Our room had a window with a beautiful view of the old town. Although the room was small, it was quite comfortable and we had no problem finding space to place our luggage. The bathroom was excellent. The breakfast was quite good. Although we had trouble getting WiFi in our room, there was excellent WiFi in the comfortable guest sitting room downstairs. The entire hotel was so charming and beautiful that it would be very difficult to find any fault. I would warn anyone driving to Ronda that the only available parking is several blocks away from the hotel. Nevertheless, we found this a small price to pay for staying in such a wonderful hotel in such a beautiful location.

Very centrally located in Ronda with easy access to all of Ronda's sites. Coming into town, it was very easy to find. Parking is very close to the hotel in a public car park. It is discounted if you stay at the hotel. The jr suite was very nice. The staff was very helpful.

There is a lot to like about Hotel San Gabriel. The location in the old town is excellent without the canyon views (and therefore a lot cheaper). Parking is quite nearby and relatively cheap. The rooms are full of character and interest. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. The wifi is limited to the reception area because of the thick walls but that's not the end of the world. Other tourists stop to photograph it! Lots to like.
Less likeable was the small hard bed mentioned by others. Not good. The bed is also on a raised platform which is a real safety hazard for dopey sleepers like me. The shower is odd in the extreme, although after a deal of fiddling I was able to get a decent shower out of it. The breakfast is also quite limited.
In the end, the staff make the difference between a fair stay and a good one.

Like this hotel because the location is great. Small beds a little hard and outdated bathrooms. But this is from an American review. Overall I would stay here again for the location alone. We rode our bikes from Alora to Ronda and we were on foot there for a couple of days and you can't beat the location. We speak Spanish, but the receptionist speaks English and was very nice. I think it is a hotel you should stay at while in Ronda, but don't be fooled that you are going to be in a Hyatt bed or that the TV will be a flat screan. Our bed was small and hard and the shower was small. But I don't travel for the hotels; I travel for the experience and Ronda is one of those special places in the world that you should not miss. Just be realistic of what you are getting; an old hotel with poor beds but great location. Also the outside of the hotel is very nice. If this Hotel were not in a great location I would not recommend this hotel.

I travel overseas several times a year and have experienced a large number of hotels in a variety of countries and Hotel San Gabriel is easily one of the best experiences I have ever had. The location is unbeatable in the old Arab quarter in the heart of the oldest part of the city, which is minutes from all the worthwhile sites, activities and restaurants. The hotel is beautifully constructed from an old home and has about 15 rooms, each of which are unique and well-maintained. The furnishings are primarily authentic Andalusian antiques, giving the hotel a warm and elegant feel. But above all these things is the excellent and friendly staff who always seemed eager to go above and beyond the call of duty. The family who runs the place provide an especially warm and friendly touch to the experience.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel San Gabriel. This beautifully restored 16th century mansion made our visit to Ronda even more special. Each room is uniquely decorated and painstaking detail is made to give each room its own personal style. The rooms are spacious and it is a true delight to be able to walk throughout the mansion. It has a quiet sitting area with a huge array of books to read as well as pictures and paintings throughout to discover- stars and other gliterrati that have stayed at the hotel. The staff is very helpful in providing you with instructions on the nearby parking, as well as restaurant suggestions and tour reservations. There is a computer for internet access in the sitting area and the breakfast area is quite nice with a continental type service; if you want more of a breakfast that is available at an additional cost. It was nice to sit outside near the fountain and drink the freshly squeezed orange juice in the hotel. We loved it.
