We sat outside at the table under the old city walls on a beautiful sunny January day. Sipping a nice cold drink we put our order in and sat back to enjoy the scene. And waited ,and waited, and waited. One of our party received their food and some people at the surrounding tables had eaten and left, but our food was nowhere to be found. It was crowded that day and the staff was definitely cracking from the pressure. After about 45 minutes,we managed to get a hold of our waiter and told him we would like the check. He said to wait a minute and suddenly our food was delivered. The food was really good but the service was terrible. I would consider going again as the location is excellent but not if there's a crowd.

Victims of their own success really. Pork Kebabs were the best I have ever had (not kebab in the turkish sense but chargrilled on a skewer nevertheless). Not over cooked or too dry but very very tasty Iberican pork. However, the service was slow but then again it was busy. All they need to do is employ another waiter!

We used this as our 'local' during our stay in Ronda and variously had drinks, tapas, a full meal & a late coffee & conac here. It's not trying to be posh but does good, filling food & is always full of locals. Set beside a pretty plaza in a quiet residential area outside the walls, it's a world away from the touristy places - including the one just across the square.

Restaurant reviews are always difficult with the experiences being very subjective and therefore one must be careful when relying the opinions of others. And so it was for us having walked from the centre of Ronda through the old town to the Bodega Bar Restaurante San Francisco following advice from the current LP guide for Spain. We found the food to be quite disappointing, and certainly not the high point of what is on offer elsewhere in Ronda. Portions were very large and not expensive and the service was certainly very good. It is just that the food was bland and uninspiring. it was almost as though the kitchen really didn't care and I wonder how long that attitude would last if the LP guide recommendation was removed and they had to genuinely earn their customers?

We followed Rick Steves (and other's) advice on the Bodega and went to the cafe/bar rather than the little restaurant across the street. Steves also recommended the scrambled eggs with potatoes, bacon and green peppers. I have probably eaten that combination hundreds of times in my life, but for reasons I may never know the Bodega's version was heavenly. A half ration, along with a chorizo patty on a bun (one of their many tapas) was very filling. The menu is filled with soups, salads, tapas and grilled meat platters, plus a great selection of wines and several beers on tap. Going on a Sunday afternoon the place was filled with happy local families, which just added to the terrific Analusian atmosphere. The service was friendly and quick. The Bodega is about a 10 minute walk from where the Calle Arminan (the main street from the bridge through the old city) ends at the south wall of the old city and splits into Calle Cuesta de las Imagenes (with a great view of the old Moorish wall) and Calle Espiritu Santo (a nice walk past cute old homes and the Church of the Holy Spirit). You can't miss the Bodega when you hit the roundabout where both streets end. Depending on the weather you can eat at the bar of the bodega or upstairs in a coloful and friendly room, or outdoors either at tables surrounding the building or across the street in the attractive plaza. It is worth the extra walk from the tourist section of the old city.
