We were a small party of three on what I now consider THE most unique experience I've had so far. The mixture of incredible scenery and all the history that somehow seems to pop up at every footstep we took is something that filled my soul with an immense joy. It felt truly enchanted also because of the magic shared with us by Vidal and his Adventure Holidays Peru team. While visiting Sachsaywaman, Chinchero, Ollantaytambo we could feel in their explanations the love that they have for this land and its culture. Doing the Inca Trail was the apotheosis of our journey.
We took our entire Peru trip with AHP. Vidal customized our trip based on every request I made so it really felt like getting around on our own without the headaches of logistics. And maybe most important of all, with the benefit of great guides all along the way. When we finally met Vidal in Cusco he told us that in every place we visited he used to work as a tourist guide and based on his experience he had the opportunity to select the local tourist companies that provided the best services. It turned out to be true.
The trip was not easy, we didn't expect it to, since in 15 days we covered so many places in the southern part of Peru, but it was worth every penny and every discomfort we might have encountered along the way (like waking up at 4 a.m.). We didn't experience any real high altitude sickness, feeling only a little light-headed and I'm convinced that the itinerary was perfect in this respect also: we traveled almost exclusively by bus and the road took us gradually from the Pacific coast (Lima and Paracas/Islas Ballestas) to Nazca and then up to Arequipa/Chivay/Colca Canyon and Lake Titicaca, ending our journey in Cusco/Sacred Valley.
My only regret? 15 days were not enough, but this is why I plan to go back.
