“Pie and pud night”
Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

Visited on a Tuesday evening, which is designated "pie and pud" night, although full menu is also available. Choice of pies, which are all home made; the two we chose were delicious! We had pud, although really full from the pies! ( Note to management, maybe provide lighter desserts, rather than pastry based ones,to follow the pies). Young serving staff were very pleasant, and worked hard to provide excellent service.

“Overpriced specials menu”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

Lovely village pub pleasant staff. I decided to choose a meal from the specials menu which was supposed to be pork.
How disappointing when it arrived it was bacon steaks with pork crackling ! And no vegetables !
Next time I go I will stick to the carvery.

“Stick to the carvery, the menu is overpriced!”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

We visited the Old Friar in March 2013 midweek evening. There was a good choice of starters and they were well presented and tasty. Although there was a carvery there was only one meat, turkey which was disappointing as the carvery has always been really good. So we decided to order from the menu, we had steaks and a lamb shank. The chips arrived in a small bucket which was novel. Unfortunately the steaks were chewy (and expensive at £17.95) and the lamb shank looked like it have been reheated, it was dry on the outside and I had to tug it off the bone. The bill came to £100 for four starters, four mains, a free bottle wine (with steak deal) and two cokes. We found it to be overpriced for what it was, it wasn't a quality restaurant meal more pub grub. We will go again but will stick to the carvery and check what meat is available before booking.

“Good lunch - great service”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

I have now had 2 weekday lunches at The Old Friar during the past month and have to say that it is a most delightful venue, easy to get to, good food and delightfully served. My only disappointment is that I have not had an opportunity to be there for one of their many music nights. Well worth a visit and close enough to the A14 to be a great stopping off point between Cambridge and Birmingham

“Fabulously quaint and cozy”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Hats off to the chef and staff! This is an excellent choice for a very, very good meal. I can't say enough about the service; warm, friendly, inviting, and sociable. The food presentation was superb, and it tasted wonderful--it was like dinning in 5 star. I took the time, because it was so comfortable, to speak with the staff and get to know a little about them. Peter, Katie, and staff, keep it up. It is clear that you have strong passion for this. All the best to you all. I will definitely eat here again.
