We found Casa Condor through the guidebooks, getting in touch was very difficult but we found someone down in Chimberazo who knew someone who knew someone who contacted them via radio. We were told they would cook for us etc and do tours etc etc. When we arrived a member of the small community came and asked us to pay in advance and disappeared. There were needles, baseball bat above the door and all sorts of weird things in the cabin. Things got very funny...we were put in a cabin which clearly belonged to someone, with clothes, personal effects etc labled Thomas Walsh (also listed in loney planet). We then walked around... The school built was derelict (like completely derelict!) and the rooms built for guests were emplty and locked. We left the next day because there was no food, water etc and it is comletely remote. I decided to do some reasurch to find out what was going on, and wrote to all the aid agencies (US Aid was the main one but never wrote back) and I did eventually find out it was a community project but it had completely broken down. We found Thomas Walsh through the Internet who was very tight lipped about it when we asked in the email and didn't want to tell us what had happened which was very strange. We heard from someone in the town there had been some irregularities butit was pretty clear the community pocketed our money and didn't offer any food/tours promised. I'd stay away.
