“Lovely Setting”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

Just one night here but very pleasant indeed. The " village" is just a well-spaced series of luxury, if sparsely furnished, houselets in a sylvan setting making for a pastoral atmosphere. It's on the edge of a fairly primitive village which makes for an interesting morning walk. Apart from the centrally-located restaurant there are few if any extra facilities. The restaurant itself does good meals but, strangely, is located a distance from the kitchen. The friendly and efficient waiter does his best but has to carry trays from A to B by which time the food is cooling off somewhat or the fried eggs congealing. There must be a better system than that!
The hotel is near the popular and well-worth-visiting orphan elephant sanctuary and a good stop-off for it. There was a "protest" going on, blocking the main road on the day we arrived but by very skilful navigation along byroads our driver got us to the sanctuary on time.
We'd definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: As far from reception and near the restaurant as possible.

Two nights very comfortable lodging, as a convenient base close to Udawalawe. Our room was very clean, conveniently located close to the open air restaurant. The room was large, but sparsely furnished. Could have done with a table and a chair or two. The bathroom was clean and everything worked okay, except that there is a problem with the plumbing, insofar as every time water was dispensed, via any of tap, toilet or shower, the plumbing made strange noises. As this room and the next are built together, the noise from either room affected the other. These are the deluxe rooms. Not enough to put me off staying there again. The aircon was necessary and effective.

Breakfasts were great, with lovely fruit and egg options. Dinners were mixed, some pleasant dishes, some dreadful. I would avoid seafood dishes, as they contain what looks like dried prawns. But the chef's salad was excellent. Fair use of MSG in the dishes.

Lovely gardens, great for strolling around.

Mr. Di Silva, the manager, was very helpful, and there was no problem arranging a very enjoyable "two tour" trip to Udawalawe the next morning.

We spent two nights here and we stayed in the deluxe rooms which were excellent! Clean and very spacious.
The manager was very helpful, but does not always stick what he has promised...
It's very conveniently located and close to the national park Udawalawe.
The breakfast that was included was very good with a large fruit plate, yoghurt, cake and bread.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are very nice.

Most professional staff we encountered in all of Sri Lanka. The manager had great English and was very helpful. We got a welcome drink and chatted about trip to Udawalawe national park, which the manager arranged for next morning (wasn't a problem even if we arrived late at night). Best breakfast in Sri Lanka - very big with lots of different things. Very nice outdoor bar, good food, waiter showed us some interesting things in the area. Really the only place we stayed in in Sri Lanka with service western people take as a norm but is not common over there.
Regarding the location - it is kind of like a camp off the main road, not 1 hotel building, so you get your own little house, you can sit on the porch and relax in the middle of nature. At the same time the bus stop is not far, walking distance.
One note regarding the visit to the park - you will automatically get a "guide" for your jeep at the park entrance - test his English. Ours had almost none so we didn't find out anything from him, fortunatelly the driver made up for it (but he was arranged through the guesthouse, not the park).

This hotel is probably a good base camp for 1 night if you want to visit Uda Walawe park. However, don't spend more than one night if you don't want to get into depression...

The 'Deluxe' room was clean but not cosy at all.

The restaurant looks a bit like a tree house and is peaceful. Unfortunatelythe food tastes like Chinese-full-of-glutamat dishes...

After few days in the mountains, we were so happy to get to this place.

Nice room with A/C
A nice bar with great food.

And the manager... He is just perfect. He helped us arrange our Safari trip, when to the pharmacy for us and even find an adapter so we can charge our cell phone.

I highly recommend this place!

We stayed here for one night to join a safari. We arrived late and were picked up by the staff, a very friendly and welcoming Manager. The mixed reviews here are likely because there are several different types of rooms available. All ranging from budget to higher end. So, check out the rooms before committing. The room we stayed in was fantastic, very clean, excellent service by staff. Especially good value for the money. Its a bit hard to find nice accommodations in this area. We opted for a budget level, knowing not to expect much and were pleasantly surprised here. If you are looking for the same, this is DEFINITELY your best bet. Would recommend!

Room Tip: We stayed in the double room behind the front desk. Would recommend.
