Location is great, food is amazing and the feel of the place is just wonderful! Perfect place for a chill meal and cold drink while checking your email after a day at the beach. They rent sunbeds right in front of the cafe.

This is the typical place for tourists. The service is so so. The juices are expensive and warm. They only serve pizzas, omelettes and crepes. If you really need a western atmosphere, well, that's the perfect place...

This ended up being our last dinner during our trip to India and it did not disappoint! Although we had not tired of Keralan food, we found it hard to find a place open on a weeknight around 9pm on Cherai Beach so to Chillout we went.

The owner as well as the restaurant were delightful and made us feel very welcome. The food is bit on the pricey side but not a surprise given that the menu is totally different than anything else offered for miles around. In other words, a French menu while sitting on a beautiful beach in Kerala! His use of local seafood but prepared in Continental ways was spot on.

The only disappointment was that they did not serve alcohol and will not allow you to carry it in. The owner explained that he has been trying for years to get a license but it is a difficulty to overcome in this part of India. Please, whoever is responsible for this in the local government, help this owner out and let him get his liquor license. In the meantime, to compensate, Chillout does have some delicious virgin drinks so do try them. Thanks for a delicious meal and continued success!

As an Indian, Chilli has become an involuntary part of diet. So if you are not ready for experimenting (as my wife!) do not venture here! Everything from the crepes to the salad (prawn papaya) were sweet, yet terrific! The burger was terrific and you could tell it took a lot of time. And finally the desserts (creme brulee and chocolate mousse) were delicious, though a bit too much. We went there on a sunday and having read the reviews here went early. However the cool breeze and the terrific ambience lazed us and we ordered in parts (over 3 hours!), which was a mistake as things kept finishing very fast (in fact earlier we were told that the creme brulee was finished).

So if you have a lot of time, are ready to try mediterranean food, want to enjoy the cherai beach breeze in a cozy environment, this is the place to be..

If you get fed up with poor coffee and too much curry then this place is well worth a visit. Run by a French guy who decided that Cherai Beach needed a "spice free" restaurant and decent coffee. He was very welcoming and pleased to offer advice on things to do/places to visit whilst we were in Cherai Beach for 5 days. We didn't try the food as the place was shut for no obvious reason when we went back, but it did look nice when we were there for coffee both at lunchtime and in the evening. Give it a try.
