I went with my sister and we were pleasantly surprised. We started off by having a coffee and homemade cake each in the cafe, and booking a boat trip. This left us 90 minutes to wander in the gardens on our way down to the broads, we found this most enjoyable. The boat trip on the broads was made interesting by the commentary from the skipper. We were both sorry we did not live closer as it;s a place one could easily visit 3 or 4 times a year.

I visited Fairhaven with my daughter, whom I was home-educating at the time. We had a walk around the gardens and enjoyed a boat trip on the broad. We had lunch in the cafe which serves wonderful home cooked food. We visited the shop and the lady serving took a great interest in the fact that my daughter was being home-schooled and was incredibly helpful. The whole experience was lovely.

Visited Fairhaven for the first time today - two adults and one teenager, and really enjoyed our 3 hour visit. It was so peaceful and tranquil walking through the woodlands and gardens on a bright sunny autumn morning and the boat trip to the Abbey was a bonus. Food in the cafe was lovely and served quickly. Would recommend to others wanting to avoid the hustle and bustle of other tourist attractions.

Basically some unspoiled woodland with some uneven paths. This may be the exception in the area, but there are many better areas than this where we live that we can walk around free of charge so after being charged over £20 admission we were expecting more.
The boat ride was quite good (extra cost), if it were possible I would recommend the boat trip without the woodland walk, but that is not currently possible. On the way back to the entrance the cafeteria was cordoned off so I cannot comment on that. There was a small selection of plants for sale along with a small selection of mementoes.
To finish on a plus note the car park was large and near the entrance.

Dear Derek

Thank you very much for your review. I am sorry that you were disappointed with your visit, but am glad that you enjoyed the boat trip.

Fairhaven is a natural garden with ancient oak and beech trees. We have beautiful autumn colours and in the spring you can enjoy daffodils, primroses, bluebells, rhododendrons, azaleas and candelabra primulas. In the summer we have many wild flowers and a special hydrangea walk. We are also a very important site for many species of bird, butterfly and dragonfly.

The entry charge goes towards caring for the garden and public access. Last winter we completely rebuilt the boardwalk on the main bridges path and recently have built a new picnic platform in the Sensory Garden and are now working on the Kingfisher Path. This will be followed by the viewing platform over the broad, which leads off the Kingfisher Path.

The tearoom is always open when the garden is open, so I am not sure why you couldn't get access. It would be useful to know the date that you visited

Thank you

Walking in woodlands can be one of the most interesting activities because of the birds and wildlife. Taking the cruise on the broad allows you to enjoy a small element of a broad cruising day. Walking to and from the cruise and round the gardens prepares you for the excellent café and food. Very relaxing.

This is mostly woodland and very natural, not at all a 'manicured' garden, it doesn't claim to be, therefore quite dark even on a lovely sunny day. We spent a very pleasant morning here, the best part for me was sitting by the broad at the boat house picnic area where there is a lovely view. We had good coffee and a sandwich from the cafe and sat out in the sun, very pleasant and peaceful. The entrance fee was a bit on the high side.

Dear Ann

Thank you very much for your review.

I am very pleased that you enjoyed your visit to the garden and also enjoyed your coffee and sandwich at the tearoom.

Thank you for your feedback about the garden entry charge. To explain, the garden is run by a small charity and all are income goes towards looking after the garden and improving public access. Last winter we finished a complete rebuild of the boardwalk on the main bridges path and this year have built a new picnic platform in the Sensory Garden and are in the process of a rebuilding the boardwalk and viewing platform off the Kingfisher Path. We also always look at ways to enhance our woodland garden and have just planted additional hydrangeas on the Hydrangea Walk, to give that area a boost next summer.

Thank you

With over 100 acres of natural gardens, woods and lakes, this is a great place to spend a day. There is the option of woodland walks, boat trips, and a welcoming cafe. Highly recommened.

These gardens are sadly underwhelming. The pathways and plants could do with a lot more attention. The entry fee is too high. The 20 minute boat ride was OK but could have had a lot more commentary to make the most of the nature on the broad.

We phoned in advance to ask about the trip to St Benets, got no response and left a message, did not get a call back and when we arrived were told the boat was full.

We could have enjoyed a walk in many woods and parks around Norfolk without having to pay an entrance fee.

Thank you very much for your review.

I am so sorry that you did not get a call back about the St Benet's Abbey boat trip and that you were disappointed by your visit to the garden, including the boat trip.

I hope you don't mind if I add some information about the garden. Fairhaven is a natural garden with ancient oak and beech trees. Avery nice few hours here lovely forest walk with stream alongside. Some nice flowers and interesting old trees. A lot of wildlife especially birds. We went on the 20 min boat trip was very nice very enjoyable.feel the boat trip price should be included in entry price though not extra as makes expensive for a small attraction.
