“Good choice to taste local culture”

Enjoyed a lot. Had a chance to see the back stage before the show started and took pictures. Better to read the story in advance to not to miss the story. If you take pictures dont forget to bargain

“Traditional BaIinese Dancing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

My daughter and I visited the Jambe Budaya Barong and Kris Dance just over a week ago.

The entry fee is 100,000 Rupiah (Approx. $10 Aus) per person. Before entering the open aired theatre (auditorium), you are offered the opportunity to have your picture taken with one of the stunningly dressed female dancers. These are taken on your camera by one of the staff and a professional photos are also taken. The show starts with two of the female performers dancing in traditional Balinese style. This was what we expected and glad to see. Once that was finished the rest of the show then concentrated on the Barong Kris dance which consisted of 5 acts. The Barong (mythical animal - good spirit) is similar to a Chinese dragon and the costume was also stunning. Overall the show went for about an hour and towards the end I felt it dragged on a little. It's unfortunate that the characters involved spoke in Indonesian but you are given a handout before the show explaining the different scenes and their meaning.

Once the show is finished, like most tourist attractions in Bali, you are offered to buy the professional photo taken of you earlier and you could even buy a plate with your photo imprinted in the middle. The plate cost 80,000 Rp but it's not a compulsory buy.

Overall I thought the performance was ok but I'm glad I went as we ran out of time to see any other Balinese type traditional dancing whilst in Bali.

Cheers,

Paul

“Very very poor”

My review same as Mr Vinod_hyd. We felt that we were deceived. Very low standard and poor theatre show extracting tourist money for nothing.

“A rip off”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

For 100,000 idr, it is a rip off. Definatley a tourist trap. Off course, taxi drivrers get commission to bring tourist there, but give it a miss if you can. For fist timers to Bali, the show starts at 10.00. So you might want to depart from hotels in kuta at 8.30. Traffic to get there is terrible, it might take an hour or more.

“Tourist trap, not suitable for families with Children”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

We were lured to this place by a taxi driver on a tour itinerary. When our taxi driver asked if we would like to see this dance, I should have suspected it since taxi drivers in Bali suggest places that give them commission. Also avoid the "free coffee" places they take you to where they entice you to buy Luwak coffee for a huge markup.
The ticket price is ridicilously expensive for the dance by Bali Standards (100,000 IDR per person). The taxi driver gets a cut of this for luring you into this tourist trap. Before you buy tickets, you are enticed to get your picture taken with one of the female dancers, for a fee. The auditorium is hot and humid with very uncomfortable bamboo chairs. They wait to fill up the auditorium before the dance starts, so if you get there early you will be waiting for a while.
The dance performance itself has bits of crude adult humour and not very traditional as we expected. All in all a waste of time and money. Better to avoid!
