This hike is very nice and the view is beautiful. Should leave early in the morning otherwise it might be to hot. The hill is kind of steep, but it is a good exercise and fun.

This is a great hike, moderate to steep inclines for the entire 2.5 mile hike up the ridge to the picnic table at the top. there is a 1600 foot elevation change, that is a little over 12%, so if you are not in good shape, expect a tiring march. but as others have said, the views into the valley and of the valley, ocean, haleakala are just fantastic. we are in our 50's and this was a difficult hike, up and down. but well worth it. take water, hiking shoes preferred. we encountered no rain, trail dry all the way up, got started around 10am.
it took us 2 hours, we stopped and rested and took pics on the way. if you have a walking stick, that would help.

This hiking trail can be a bit challenging because of the paved concrete inclined at the beginning of the hike, but don't forget to look back and appreciate the beauty of the island and the view of the Kahakaloa side of Maui. At the end of the concrete pavement is the dirt path that will take you to multiple mountains. The weather could change in every climb, so be prepare for it and bring poncho if you must. I good hiking boots is a must but I was able to get away with my running shoes.

The 2.5mile hike can take you from an hour to hour and a half depending on how many stops you make to soak in and take pictures. Every turns on this hike is a picturesque view of the coast and west Maui mountain and waterfalls from the distance. The botanist will have a field day on this trail because of the abundance of the native Hawaiian plants.

There is no restroom facilities in the area, so make sure you do you business before taking this challenge.

Trash bins are nowhere to be found, so bring back what you brought and do not spoil it for others.

You're surely enjoy this trail because of its beauty. There is no point of checking the weather because slight drizzle to a rain should be expected.

Leave your gadget behind and enjoy the journey!!!

We read about this hike in a magazine in out condo and it lived up to our expectations. We hiked the first 1.5 of the 2.5 mile trail. We weren't prepared for the mud and slippery inclines after 1.5 mules...shod have had hiking boots and walking sticks! But being relatively inexperienced, we did well and completely enjoyed the breathtaking views of the ridge. I only wish that the skies ere clear so we could take on all the beauty at the higher elevations. There is a waterfall in the distance at .5 miles another at 1.0. We will keep this on our list to do again the next time we are in Maui.

We went and it rained/drizzled most of the time. Hiking up the misty mountain was an experience in itself, surreal, slippery and kind of treacherous at times in fact. Don't get discouraged by the initial horrible incline, it gets way better after that. On the way back down we were rewarded with peeks through the clouds at a waterfall across one valley and sweeping views across another valley to the ocean.
