“Beautiful but wavy”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Great beach. Perfect for teens and kids who like to boogie board or enjoy waves. Was never too crowded and there was ample room for everyone on the beach. Crowd consisted of a lot of families. Great for strolling along as well.

“Fun waves”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Went here with 4 kids - two 10 year olds and two 7 year olds. It was very wind, and there were several kite surfers out. The wind driven waves were too much for all the kids except one. That didn't stop us from taking them boogie boarding and surfing with a foam board, but be aware that the current is strong. The bottom is all sand and there are lots breaks along the beach to waves were everywhere.

We were able to rent boogie boards and foam boards for $5 right on the beach. You can also rent chairs and umbrellas. There is a small parking lot (free) for about fifteen cars. Then, you are left to park on the street.

If your kids are not strong swimmers, then you might do better with a more gentle, more consistent reef break.

“Wonderful spot for hanging out day and night”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

Sandy Beach is an exciting place (rated one of the world's sexiest beaches this year). Early mornings the surf is often calm and great for snorkeling and swimming. It's also good for surfing and body-boarding. Or take a long walk north to collect shells along the beach toward River mouth or south toward Domes and Maria's. Breakfast is served at nearby restaurants. Later in the day, more visitors come for the sun and waves -- when surf is up. Tamboo has great food, especially the fish sandwiches. After a frequent afternoon rain (summer) it cools down and is a beautiful place to watch the sun set near Desecheo Island. There are rental villas, apartments, and rooms available within walking distance of Sandy Beach. With a dozen places to eat, a few shops for beachwear, and even rent surfboards and diving gear, you won't really need to leave the beach!

“FANTASTIC beach”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

During the peak season (Nov-Mar) this is a party town/beach where surfers come and hang out. During the summer, we basically have the beach to ourselves. The waves are normally big enough for bodyboarding on yet safe enough to just play in the waves. We love it here and have a hard time planning a vacation anywhere else.

“Great for surfing but too many rocks”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Great for surfing but too many rocks where the waves break, my son scrapped his chest after getting caught in a wave. The beach is not level.
