My boyfriend (now husband) at the time invited me to spend the weekend at this lovely hotel. We arrived late Friday Night. Saturday morning we ordered room service for breakfast which was great and sat down at the balcony for a nice romantic breakfast right in front of the ocean. Right after breakfast an airplane passed right in front of our villa with a Banner asking if I would marry him!!!!! Everything had been planned weeks before and I had no clue. My husband and the hotel's administration worked together to make this the perfect proposal and afterwards the best honeymoon. They were even at the next door villa taking pictures for us.

We have been around but never been in a Hotel that has all the good things in the same place. The food was great, service was excellent and the accommodations and ambiance of the hotel make you feel royal. You do not need to leave your room for anything so is perfect for honeymooners or romantic escapades with that perfect someone.

After our great weekend I wanted to surprise my husband with something special from our engagement weekend and since he fell in love with the bathrobes included in each room I asked Wilhelm (hotel administrator) to buy him one. Wilhelm sent a private chofeur from Rincon to San Juan to give me not one but two bathrobes as a wedding gift from the hotel. We now remember each day our special weekend at the Horned Dorset. We will definitely be coming back each year for our anniversary thanks to the great staff and accommodations provided we have a special place away from home.

This definitely has been one of the best, if not the best resort we have stated in. Friendly & speedy check in. Now the room, wow! No need to even point out how clean it was. Marble floors, great furniture, awesome bed! The private plunge pool was a great feature!

Only issue we had was the door that was not locking properly. In less than 10 minutes it was resolved.

They have two pools but the infinity edge pool had a million dollar view! Definitely recommended & can't wait to go back.

Maybe it was because we were there in the off season, or maybe we were snakebit on this part of our trip, but the Horned Dorset was very nice, but not fantastic, and certainly not worth the money ($1100/day for a two-story suite for 5 people, including 2 murphy beds, when all was said and done -- in the off season). The manager, Wilhelm Sack (sp?), was very gracious, the staff pleasant, but it just didn't come together quite like it should. We arrived to check in, and the young man at the desk seemed surprised to see us. We ended up lugging our bags up several flights of stairs to our villa, because nobody else was around. Additional staffing would have be helpful, and should have been available. Housekeeping staff was very thorough, attentive, and responsive. The restaurant has very good food, a reasonable wine list, and very attentive service, and service eating outdoors by the beach was good, but trying to get a drink around the pool took some doing. The air conditioning in the master suite was very, very loud (as in wake you up from sleep when it kicks in loud, or requiring you to raise your voice to converse loud), and there was nothing to do about it; I think that's just how it functions. The beach is small, but we expected that. This is a very nice hotel, both the facilities and the grounds, and I think Mr. Sack truly aims for the highest level of service, but I don't think they quite attained it, at least not on my visit. They did very well, but not great, in my view.

Beautiful romantic room. Place need mantainance. We stayed at room 48 the air conditioned in the second floor was always leaking water because the system get freeze. We recommend to do some exterminating work more frequently my husband killed two big spiders and one salamanders in our bed room. Need to take care of details like dust in lamps, mirrows etc. Landscape work was due. There is a really disgusting oddor Comming from the gardens, we really sorry for the ones with room near that area. Really this is a beautiful place but need to take care of details and will definitely transform it to paradise.

Room Tip: Select a room with ocean view not near gardens

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your expierence of your recent stay with us and I have passed your comments on to our housekeeping staff. In all suites we have cards drawing attention to the fact that " doors and windows should not be open when the Airconditions are running as the units will freeze up and start dripping water'" and of corse open doors also invite the tropical invadors, like lizards and other insects common in " Paradise". The peaceful ambience, as you mentioned puts the practical aspects some times aside.

i sincerely hope you will visit us again and all the best wishes.

We spend a weekend (F to S) at this place and we had a really good time. Rooms are very clean and service is very good.  Nevertheless, we spend around $800 for 2 for the weekend that included: the stay, 2 breakfasts on Sunday, 2 luches on saturday, 2 dinners on Friday and 6 drinks (the rest we had it elsewhere); believe us  this place is not worth that ammount.  First, food & drinks are extremelly overpriced for what they are. Second, their bartenders have no training whatsoever, we are cocktail fans and we continuously had to tell them how to make popular cocktails like, Sex on the beach & malibu sea breeze, ect.  Third, we had a leak in our toilet since the first day, we complained, but it was never taken care of which surprised us, because it was a security hazard. In fact, on our last day, i slipped while getting out of the tub. In addition, the pools are constantly getting full of mosquitous and bugs. They need to be clean like every 2 hours or so and they are not. This includes the private poll in each room. Fifth, the gym is very substandard. Sixth, the final bill only details the total amount spent on the day, not what you spend in detail. As a customer, I didn't appreciate this way of billing, because there is no way you can dispute a charge this way.  Finally, during the day, if it is sunny, there is a strong foul smell all over the place, we believe from the mangroves that surround the place.  Again, very nice place to stay, but not worth what they charge. Dear Guest,

Thank you for letting us know your impressions of your recent 2 night weekend stay with us. You spent appr. 800.00 for two persons for two nights occuping a two story suite with two bathrooms, living room, wet bar, terrace with private plunge pool and food and beverage for two, on our special time limited summer package.

Once I read your comments on the "Sex on The Beach" drink ,I asked our barstaff and they all knew how to make the drink unless you asked our beach/bus boy and threw him off completly with the "Sex on the Beach" request.

I appreciate your other comments about being a nice and quite place and we are working on the issues you mentioned.

We are looking forward seeing you back again and please do not hesitate to contact me for any future visit

P.S. I do not know if you noticed that you double posted your comment. on Tripadvisor.. Thank you.
