“Ugh!”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

The first time we visited, the food was superb. We ordered the winerscnitzel in white wine sauce,
with cabbage and potatoes. It was really exceptionally good. BUT THE SECOND TIME, unfortunately, was disgusting. We went again and ordered the same thing. This time, looks like the meat had been cooked the day before, thin as paper and dry as a bone. It was truly awful.
AND the potatoes had a hair in it, the same color (reddish) as the woman who was doing the
cooking. Sorry, but this place does not get a third chance from me!

“German Food So Good, You'll Forget You're in PR”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

We have found a strange trend as we've tried various eating establishments around Puerto Rico: the restaurants serving foreign food (e.g. Thai, German, coffeehouse) seem to put more effort into the experience. This includes both the quality of the food, as well as the service. Das Alpen did just that: our attentive and friendly server was well informed about the menu, and was ready and willing to answer the questions we had about some items we had never heard of. The bar offered an extensive beer menu, including draft beers. I had the Jägerschnitzel (sp?), which was covered with a creamy and delicious sauce. My husband ordered the pork chop (can't recall what was named)...it was huge! It came with a side of spatzel (sp?), or German pasta, which was quite tasty. My husband also wants me to mention that the bread was served with seasoned olive oil.
The only menu item that did not fully impress us was the Black Forest Brownie. It still hit the sweet spot, though. Overall, we highly recommend this place.
Beware that Das Alpen closes after Labor Day and remains closed until early October...however, they return with a bang, as their Second Annual Octoberfest is scheduled then.

“Good Food”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

Very tasty food. I did enjoy their list of beers. I had some kind of sour beef, cooked with wine, over cabbage. It was real good. The service was the best.

“Good food”
Reviewed August 23, 2012 via mobile

The food at das Alpen is delicious! Hand made pastas and typical German dishes. My favorite was the yaegerscnitzle entree with the potato dumpling. The waitress was nice, but not overly friendly or engaging. The beer and wine list is very nice, we tried a dunkel beer. The atmosphere is kind of ho-hum, could be warmer and less minimal. It is very expensive for dinner, but the prices reflect the quality of the food they are using. Overall it was decent. We wish there was a fun and lively happy hour with specials, as the empty bar didn't look very inviting. Overall we would recommend it !

“Good times”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

We went for the German food, which we aren't really familiar with, and for the craft beer, since a year a go craft beer was *impossible* to get in the island. I gotta say we had a great time, and were served wonderfully. I always recommend sitting at the bar, that way you can have the bartender's attention! We didn't try the Italian menu, but we did have the Bruschetta and the Potato Soup as appetiers, and I wouldn't recommend either. The Jaeger Schnitzel and the Sauerbraten were to die for, though. All in all, good times!
