“Great snorkeling - get there early!”

Ranked #2 of 32 things to do in Rincon

We borrowed our hotel's snorkel gear and drove up around 9:30am to check our what we called "Steps Beach", but what is officially known as Tres Palmas beach. We found free parking easily on the road down to the beach, but things were already filling up by the time we left. The walk from the car was a little difficult barefoot (jagged rocks and some broken glass) so you may want to keep some flip flops on until you get to the beach. We hid our keys in the tshirt we left on the beach as we snorkeled. Some reviews have already mentioned that it can be a little bit of challenge to enter the water, but there was a calm, less-rocky section that we were able to enter from easily. The snorkeling was nice - lots of fish and some coral. It's definitely worth a visit while in Rincon. I wouldn't hang out for the beach, as I think going earlier in the day or perhaps even later in the afternoon was perfect for snorkeling.

The snorkeling here is so good I almost want to keep it a secret. Easy access from the beach. Healthy colonies of elkhorn, staghorn and brain coral. Many small and medium sized fish. A few larger ones in deeper water. Waves were gentle and visibility good. I want early and by the time I came out at noon the beach was crowded and cars were parking on the main road. Not a good beach for swimming. Rocky and sea urchins.

I love that there are trees for shade in the morning, plenty of room for people to sprawl out and a snack shack with the best empanadillas & coco frio.

We spent a day here snorkeling with our children 6 and 11. We brought our own snorkeling gear. We were all amazed at the abundance of sea life. There are better beaches for swimming but none like it for snorkeling. We even enjoyed some food from the food stand which was delicious. A must see if you are in Rincon.

We had read the reviews about this location for snorkeling and made it our destination. It had great snorkeling! As soon as you step in you can put your mask in the water and see colorful fish! We saw plenty of fish, a huge school of fish, a few lobsters, and the coral was pretty cool. No turtles- but maybe it's not the right time of year. There were other families there, too- but it did not feel touristy. Everyone had their own space. Getting here was a bit tricky- we saw the brown sign for the lighthouse and followed that to find this place. There is a sign for Steps on the main road. You'll see a dirt road- that's the one that leads to the beach. Yes, it's the correct turn. We did not eat at the food trailor- but it was open. Really really great experience!
