first off rincon is a world class surf spot and has so many surf breaks that you couldnt hit them all in a week doing two sessions a day. i have surfed a couple of times and most places that offer lessons just want to get you standing on a board for a few seconds so you can tell your friends you got up when you get home.
at rincon surf school they take pride on really teaching you the ins and outs of surfing and are motvated to get you truly riding waves properly. within the first day i was surfing down the line and doing things quicker then i could have ever dreamed.
the surf breaks in rincon are very safe and have waves for all abilities but you need to know how to get in and out of these breaks and the boys at the school couldnt take better care of showing you how to enter and read the waves. they did such a good job that we felt comfortable going out in the afternoons with just our crew. they took the time to help us every afternoon on which breaks would be best for us, they are constantly monitoring the swells and gave us in depth description on how each break was breaking and which ones would be best for us, and i think they couldnt have nailed it more perfectly each an every day we were there.
travis who runs the school is the most awesome, postive and motivating guy i have ever met and after two minutes with him you will be charged up and ready to hit anything with his world class coaches.
spent the entire week with mike and brian and couldnt say enough positive things about these guys, thier skills and teaching ability. they are true watermen in every sense of the word. they will not only get you rocking on a surf board but they will show you the beauty of peurto rico and the ocean. mike would point out amazing sea life, i got to see huge sea turtles and mike even let me hold a sea urchin which was an experience in itself.
thier knowledge of the sea was also matched by thier knowledge of the area and every place they told us to go for drinks or dinner was top notch, and dont worry these places were all shockingly well priced.
lastly every time we went out for a session in the afternoon by ourselves we would run into travis, brian or mike who were out hitting the waves for thier own enjoyment. without hesitation they gave up on thier personal sessions and would hang with us and continue coaching. this went way beyond the call of duty as i know they love surfing as much as me and it takes a truly kind soul to give up your free time to continue to help us rookies. these guys love spreading the sport of surfing and it truly shows in every fiber of thier being.
if you are a surfer or you want to surf im not telling you to think about rincon, im telling you rincon is a must and there is only one place in all of puerto rico you should be stopping and thats the rincon surf school!
