Rincon, a small peninsula at the western end of the island, offers beautiful sunsets, lovely beaches, and spectacular surfing -- to watch or to try. It is far from the glitz of the San Juan area so if it is fine cuisine, fancy wardrobe, etc. that you want, do not go to Rincon. But if you want a laid back vacation on the beach, try it. Lots of Puerto Ricans from the cities come to Rincon to vacation, and the north side of the peninsula has great surf. In fact it has been home in the past to surfing championship events.
We rented a villa, Casa Tamara, which was right on the beach. It had two apartments, one on the second floor and one on the first floor, both with 3 bedrooms (2 baths up, three baths down) Each apartment would sleep 6.. We rented both. The villa was fully equipped, with full kitchens, satellite television, wi-fi, lots of beach chairs and lounges, plenty of towels, and a laundry room with two washers and dryers. The place was clean and the beds comfortable. There was a supermarket nearby.
Not too far away are two sites worth visiting: the Camuy Caves and the Areceibo Radio Observatory.
