Owner description: Thr Elephant Conservation Center markds a new era for conservation of the Asian elephant within the Lao PDR and offers a unique experience to visitors wishing to contribute towards the preservation of an endangered species. The first of its kind in Laos, the Center is not another elephant camp but an innovative approach that combines conservation of an endangered species with eco-tourism. Minimum stay is overnight, however we recommend our 2 night package to experience all the activities and truly enjoy this tranquil part of the world. Volunteer experiences, 6 nights/7 days are also available. Now we have our own minivan departing Luang Prabang daily at 8am and it takes you back the following day or days arriving Luang Prabang 4.30pm. It is only a 2 hour journey from Luang Prabang, Laos' UNESCO World Heritage listed town.

“A truly wonderful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

We have travelled SE Asia for 6 months and were getting to the point where nothing really impressed us...a little same same, and then we visited Laos with simply lovely people. I had wanted to go to the elephant conservation centre after a horrific elephant ride in chiang mai where the elephants were unhappy and mistreated. So we set off on the interesting bus journey to sayaboury and were met with stunning lake views, an adorable bungalow, happy inviting staff, and friendly elephants. We had lots of time riding them bareback and learning about them in such a tranquil environment, it was definitely a highlight of our trip.

“The highlight of our trip to Laos”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

We spent three days at the Elephant Conservation Center over Christmas, and this was honestly the highlight of our entire trip. We spent three days in the middle of the jungle in a little Lao village, alternating our time between relaxing in the bungalows, hanging out with the staff (who are tons of fun and clearly so passionate about their conservation work), and learning about and interacting with the elephants. The food at the center was incredible- a fusion of Thai and Lao cuisine, and every meal was delicious. We stuffed ourselves silly. Getting to the center was not without its challenges. I was 3 months pregnant when we went, so we decided against taking the public bus, and hired a driver instead. The driver, organized through the center, picked us up at our hotel, and then came and picked us back up at the end of the stay. This is a trip we would do again in a heartbeat.

“The most amazing elephant experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013 via mobile

I did the one day trip but ended up staying over night i loved it so much. the accommodation was very cute with a beautiful view and hammock on the verandah. The food was amazing. The staff were lovely with good English, knowledge and love for the elephants. Would have loved to have done the 3 day option if not for my time schedule. Have done other elephant interactions in the past which saddened me as the animals were hit and mistreated, happily this is not the case here and would be surprised if this ever got a bad review. Go and make sure you leave a tip! They deserve it.

“Unforgettable impressions”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

I did the 3 days/2 nights package in April. It's an unforgettable experience. Do it!
I took the public bus from LP to Sayaboury which was an adventure itself but absolutely worth it. To see and experience the elephants in their natural habitat was amazing.
It's a great place to visit with kids.
The small bungalows are basic but sufficient. The small porch has a hammock, which was lovely. Great shower with a view over the lake. :)
Food was SO GOOD!

“Great cause and close to vang Vieng and Luang Prabang”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

Just came back from a visit to the elephant conservation center and had an amazing time. You get to spend time with the elephants and learn more about how the mahouts work with them and what is being done to conserve them in Laos. The conservation center not only care of the elephants at the center but they a,so make a yearly trip around Laos to tend to all of the domestic elephants for an annual checkup. They also are the only elephant hospital in Laos and take care of emergencies as well. It's an amazing place to stay and the food is included and is delicious. Its a great cause and definitely worth the three hour ride from Luang Prabang.
