Correze Cycling Holidays
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We came upon correze cycling quite by accident one wet January UK morning and booked ourselves a holiday based on reviews and what we could see in the pictures on their website.
The reality is even better! I won't repeat the comments of other reviewers here except to add that Sams food is sublime and is as good if not better than any posh restaurant anywhere.
James is really good as a guide, pitching everything at a level that challenges you but leaves you feeling rather pleased with yourself......and ready for coffee and snacks in the many cafes that he knows.
In a nutshell? You really should go and see for yourself, superb!

This is only my second ever review on trip advisor because unless something is worth writing about I cannot be bothered. If you want a quiet rural French cycling holiday this will not be bettered. My wife a non cyclist had several days by the pool and James then encouraged her to join the rides adapting the routes to suit all. My 14 year old son didn't complain once. He had a great time and beat me up most the very long climbs. We went to the lakes and did walk into the village which is very quiet with no shops but a lovely walk.
Sam is a fantastic cook and I highly recommend the half board option. James and his sons are Jamie, outstanding items are: 1. Deliver/fit window sill 2. Complete painting 3. Stain sill, step and skirting board (if necessary) 4. Clean up 5. Frame wine chiller 6. Batons for curtains 7. Move old fridge to garage.fantastic relaxed guys and great cyclists
Thanks Jamie Elstow

We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. Plenty of information was provided before we arrived which made the booking and planning a breeze, it was a genuine pleasure to communicate with people rather than faceless websites and we felt almost like we were visiting friends by the time we arrived. The accommodation was beautiful and well designed to allow private spaces for those who wishing to seek out a bit of peace and quiet on holiday. The food was excellent and portions are adequate for even the hungriest cyclist with the post cycling homemade cake a particular treat. We hired bikes, a good range was available, bikes were new and well maintained and we were helped to set them up appropriately before our first ride. We have our own road bikes at home and I think the hire bikes would be satisfactory for anybody who doesn't wish to have the hassle of bringing their own bike unless they are used to a full carbon dream machine! Correze is a cyclists paradise with miles of empty smooth tarmac. James knows the area inside out and is able to advise on routes, adapt them according to the weather and recommend good lunch and coffee spots. This avoided many of the usual hassles of planning a bike ride. I am very grateful to James for his patience in guiding me up the hills, my cycling improved no end and my partner was able to dash off ahead in his own little imaginary king of the mountains race without feeling guilty. Despite having quite different levels of cycling ability and enthusiasm we both thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The pool etc is nice enough for the less enthusiastic or tired cyclist to enjoy welcome rest days in luxury without feeling left out. Our only reservation in recommending this holiday is the concern that it might be full next time we want to go!

My son and me stayed for a week in July. James and Sam are perfect hosts. The food was exceptional, the rooms and accommodation beautiful and the pool was just fantastic after a hot day on the bike. Such a quiet and peaceful area. James took us on three very enjoyable rides (the trip to the mountains was really great) and provided route maps for the days when we went on our own. We took our own bikes but James has a range of nice bikes for hire if necessary. A most enjoyable holiday - would very much like to return.

Sorry for not putting a review earlier! For anyone reading this, please do not hesitate to sign up to this fantastic cyclying. James, Sam the boys and the dogs are truly good people (and pets) and will make you feel at home 100%, even when walking round with a towel wrapped round you. There were four of us on the trip for our friend's 50th birthday and I'm sure James and Sam won't forget us in a hurry. Crazy English MAMLs (middle aged men in Licra). One word of advice, never trust James's it's only 10 k away and it looks like it will brighten up soon. When we went the weather was diabolic and these things did not materialise ever! But, if you want a fantastic cycling holiday, James and Sam can't do even for you. Shame the mountains were shut but the weather was that bad, it wasn't their fault. Hope to add some photo's at some point. San's 50th soon, so we'll have to put them on too! SANS is still COLORED!

We have just come back from a wonderful week's break at Correze Cycling. The accommodation is luxurious and the setting magnificent. James led us on great rides on four of the days, including a trip over to Mont Dore, Besse and Super-Besse. He then provided maps and advice for our self-guided rides on the other days. The region has steady hills and the countryside is beautiful, with rivers and lakes a plenty. We really appreciated the quiet roads, with barely any traffic, which makes the cycling all the better.
Sam kindly catered for my specific dietary needs and the meals were truly delicious. There are lots of lovely touches - warmed towels, afternoon tea and cake (most welcome after a long ride), plus drinks before supper. We heartily recommend staying here and wish Sam and James all the very best.

I was nervous booking a week vacation based on one Tripadvisor review, even though it was a glowing review. Plus who has ever heard of the Corezze? We booked it because we were looking for a cycling vacation out of one location so we didn’t have to shuttle and there aren’t many around (Provence Cycling Holidays is one of the few other ones in France – highly recommend). The other thing that worried me was the price, it seemed too good to be true.
Well all our fears were for not – this is a first class operation that exceeded our expectations in every way:
Corezze Area – this is a beautiful hilly area with quaint towns, most with several hundred year old stone buildings – I did not expect it to be this nice. Being remote the side roads were not busy. It is also close enough to Rocamadour, a 3star Michelin guide, that we drove/cycled to.
Accommodations – this is a new building constructed inside a centuries old barn and connecting to the centuries old house. These are modern comfortable rooms with comfortable beds. The decorating is very tasteful since Sam was a designer in a former life.
Food – OMG this also exceeded our expectations. Think British chef like Jamie Oliver goes to France. The meals were a mix of high quality family meals and restaurant meals. A couple of the deserts and main courses were a good as any restaurant during our trip. The cheese course was always a treat. The four course dinners are designed for people burning a lot of calories biking. Breakfasts were pretty standard continental but with good choice of pastry, bread, yogurt, cheese, preserves, juice and coffee.
Hosts – this was like visiting friends you hadn’t seen in years. Since we were the only people staying, except for one night, Sam and James joined us for dinner – we talked, we laughed, we drank a lot of wine. James was extremely helpful getting us extra rain gear, getting peddles set-up, making tea. Sam sent us an email after we left based on our conversations over the week including cook book and fiction recommendations, etc.
Family – we were ready to adopt Henri, the Jack Russel, think cute as in Frasier’s dad’s dog or the Artist
Biking – it was horrible weather but we were able to get 4 good days of riding in with just a few spells of rain – this is the advantage of riding out of a base, if the weather is bad you just hop in the car and skip the riding that day. The road bikes were great for climbing the hills. The great feature that James offers is a van to take you ½ hr to 1 hr away so you get to see a lot of territory; however the area around the B&B has some great cycling.
Sam & James explained why their prices are so reasonable – it is because they are out of the way. So if you are looking for a great cycling vacation this is worth the trip. Even though it is out of the way there are a lot of first class sights within 2 to 3 hours that you can tack onto this base vacation – Cahor & the Lot, Sarlat & the Dordogne, Bordeaux.
