We had a good holiday at Mavi Villa. The villa was well equipped, modern and had everything we needed including a pool, new for this holiday season. It was situated in a quiet area, a short climb from the main road.
Joe, the owner, was really helpful when we booked the villa and helped arrange our transfers which was much appreciated and was prompt to solve a few minor problems during our stay through the villa manager.
After experiencing two visits to Kalkan in previous years we did not know how the local area would compare. We were a little disappointed with Kadikalesi beach itself. It was very cramped and not very clean. We ventured to Turgetreis for the beach which was on the whole cleaner and not as busy. Watersports at Turgetreis are available for those who want to do more than sit and sunbathe. Not hiring a car we used the dolmus most days which run frequently along the main road and are very reasonable in cost.
Gumusluk and Yalikavak were quieter and prettier resorts reminding us more of Kalkan however be careful of the lure of restauranteurs on the front at Gumusluk, We ended up spending a small fortune for one meal by being lured into tasting the little extras they bring to your table and how many people a sea bass would serve!
Boat trips are offered from Turgetreis which offer good value for money but again be cautious of the charm and patter of the salesmen. We were told we would be taken to the north islands but ended up going south which we had already experienced on a trip the week before!
Ephesus is a must though there is a lot of travelling and unnecessary visits to gold and turkish delight shops if you book with one of the tour companies.
Although the villa was lovely, we found the area too commercialised for our taste and for this reason alone would not visit the area again.
