This place is a bit off the beaten track, but is well worth the visit. Make sure you have a guide or else you will not learn very much!
The area is not very good if you struggle to walk.
There is not a lot else I can say about this place, other than it is really good.

Volubilis is an impressice place to visit. We walked all the way over there from Moulay Idris-which isn't that bad if it's not 30 degrees. Make sure to take a grand taxi that waits for you and takes you back to Meknes. There are no taxis waiting at Volubilis to go to Meknes.

In spite of a smoking hot day (38 C) we did the walking tour in about 90 minutes. The ruins are only partially restored, giving a feel of the antiquity. There are many floor mosaics throughout the site. We went to a Roman site in Italy noted for the mosaics, and although they were perhaps more delicate, thy were not as numerous nor as varied. The mosaics at Volubilis are worth the visit by themselves. Most of the layout of what had to be a remote outpost of the Roman Empire is visible. The main industry was olives and there are numerous presses. Columns in the main pets of the temple are still partially standing and most of the walls, although collapsed are still extensive enough that you can imagine the size and layout of various houses and buildings. The pools and baths, particularly the bath that was heated from below by fireplaces, are amazingly well preserved. You can find remnants of drains and the chimneys are clearly visible.

There are a few guides hanging around, but they are not very aggressive. It was easy to enjoy a pleasant few hours.

If you are here in September, as we were, I'd suggest an early start. It was very hot at midday.
