Description: Our family run Free house is one of the oldest pubs in the South of England and is in an excellent position for exploring with lovely walks close by in Ashurst Park, Stone Cross, Burrswood, Withyham and The Ashdown Forest. There are links to information for Cycling, Rock Climbing, Golf, Horse Riding and Fishing in the area. Groombridge Place is only across the road where weekend events take place, lovely gardens to walk through and a children's Enchanted Forest. Come and try our traditional cuisine in the cosy beamed restaurant with log fires to keep you warm. We have a set menu and a daily specials board that caters for all tastes. Our Sunday roast is a mouth watering experience!! Family parties can be catered for and any special events - please call early to book. Bed and breakfast is available. We have beautiful cosy rooms with all the characters of the 16th Century. Please feel free to call us to ask any queries.

We always used to love this pub but hadn't been here for some years. We remembered that Sunday lunchtimes were extremely busy and that it was essential to book.... so we booked. When we arrived we were surprised to find the dining area nearly empty with only a couple of other tables taken. After a while this became easier to understand. The food seemed to be standard pub-grub - not awful, but nothing special - and the service was sloppy and inattentive. Although the pub itself retains a lot of character, covering the old wooden dining tables with white tablecloths rather ruins the effect. All in all disappointing and I don't suppose we'll go back.

This wonderful old pub is set on the beautiful village green in Groombridge, Kent.
We have been several times, mostly as a family, with children and various grandparents. The pub has a great friendly atmosphere. The friendly staff always welcome us with a smile. The food is very good, and not expensive. There is a reasonable amount of parking space.
I don't think we've ever had any complaints, and I'm sure we will continue to go back time after time to enjoy the food and the atmosphere.

All the staff here were very welcoming and we enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine whilst we chose from the menu. Lots to choose from the homemade pie was huge I chose roast pork it was delicious. The portions were ample and the vegetables fresh. You can choose to sit outside, inside near the bar or in the restaurant, lovely ambiance. Will definitely return.

A roaring log fire sending out its aromatic fragrance (or is that tautology) does something for me, as does this pub's age-less decor - the worn brick floor is charming - and the friendly bar staff. What I like just as much is the Black Cat ale from a micro-brewery in the village run by a commercial pilot - now there's a bloke with an alluring life-balance.
In summer it's pleasant sitting outside on the green. A proper pub and despite the new owners growing the food side, the bar is a drinker's paradise. A treat to visit.
