I've now eaten at the Poet number of times, as well as meeting friends for a glass of wine from time to time. Unfailingly good service, charming and not unnecessarily fussy. The food has on every occasion been very good, sometimes verging on the exceptional for a pub restaurant. There are comments on the cost of the wines that are, admittedly, at the higher end of the scale, but certainly not outrageous. Sauces-mayonnaise and ketchup-do come in small dishes which could certainly be larger, but refills are always provided with a smile and one doesn't, thank heavens, have to wrestle with pre packs.
There are in the area a number of revamped/overly renovated pub restaurants that cannot hold
candle to The Poet and I have suffered at the hands of all of them! Heading for Matfield is certainly the best bet for a well cooked pub restaurant meal in a well run establishment.
