“Good location if you have your own transport.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2014

We stayed 2 nights in room number 7 which was on the ground floor. We didn't have any problems with foot traffic as other people have stated. But it was very cold and windy so there wasn't too many people out and about. The room was one of their family rooms and had 2 single beds and a queen bed. I have a very bad back so I do like a mattress with good support . But these were just to hard and uncomfortable to get much sleep on.So if you don't like hard beds this place is not for you. But the room was clean and warm once the air conditioner got going. We didn't use the restaurant as it was closed due to the chef being sick. But Pittwater RSL club is not to far away and the food there was very nice.

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times and found it only average (at best).
We asked for a quiet room and they would allocate room 4 downstairs, which was really annoying because it has a lot of foot traffic from people walking past. The place overall seems to be frequenlty busy with conferences but was close to where we were working, so suited us for location. WiFi is an additional cost if you want it.

Checkers promotes itself as a resort/convention centre, but it's a MOTEL!
It's isolated off Mona Vale Road - you must have a car (again, it's a motel).
The food they offer at breakfast is pathetic - cereal, bread rolls, coffee is instant coffee in a big pot, orange juice isn't juice but a powder substitute.
WiFi is $5 an hour (their website says that sifi is available, but they don't tell us that they charge for it).
Some of the rooms have been renovated. They are spacious (as older properties are) but they are cold. The room is large enough for a roll out cot - for which they charge extra, as most places do.
The Chinese investor owners are just greedy - they deliver poor quality for a premium price.
Oh, and if the owners or managers read this - CLEAN YOUR POOL! It;s disgusting. Cold, full of leaves, and when I asked I was told it is serviced every few weeks (not when it dirty).

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

We stayed at Checkers for 3 nights over New Year's Eve and appreciated the quiet rooms.
The queen size beds were great...nice and firm thankfully (as I can't handle soft, saggy mattresses.) We had a room of 2 queen beds for our family. One queen and 2 singles would have worked better, but this wasn't available when I was booking online.
The breakfast buffet was nice.
Our rooms were made up each day. The rates were reasonable.
This is a handy location but best if you have a car. If you don't then the local bus service is handy- the Forest coach line service can get you to Central station within an hour. Even though technically Terrey Hills is part of Sydney's northern beaches, it is not near any beach at all.
I would stay again.

Though dated in some ways Checkers is the perfect place to stay within easy reach of Sydney's northern beaches. The rooms are spacious the buffet breakfast is exceptional and the staff extremely friendly. No paintings or wall hangings adorned the walls which created an austere effect. Otherwise perfect in every way and great value.

The rooms are fantastic! Very big ( 3 room) and comfortable.
The bathroom is also hugh. We just arrived and the staff on the reception was really friendly!
The bathroom and room was totally clean, no problems at all.

We wanted to have dinner in the evening.
The food was good, the location of the restaurant wasn't really nice. A lot of empty tables around us, just like a big storage room.

And the POOL: It's so ugly.... Absolutely dirty, really not nice to go in there.
So you really can't go in the pool for a swim. :-( sad but true.

Friendly staff, comfortable room BUT very noisy in room 18!
Doors slamming and could hear every word of the neighbour on a Skype call at 1am!
However, staff were helpful, restaurant is good quality although it does close at 9pm
As others have said you do need a car to get maximum benefit.
