“Fantastic place - has it all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

We had difficulty finding it and difficulty booking as no one answered the phone on Christmas or Boxing Day - but Oh when we found it - what else could you ask for. The welcome was fantastic - we had two friends with us who were just bringing us - but they were made to feel equally welcome. Lela was amazing it was fascinating to watch her greeting and making everyone feel special. The food was great and lunches beautifully served. All the staff were attentive. And the room .......... overlooking the sea and a bit of the lagoon - great for bird watching.

Dear eluned123

Thank you for review of Ras Kutani - and so pleased you enjoyed the service, the retreat and bird watching!

We do recommend to all guests who have not been to Ras Kutani before to receive the directions and map from our office because it can be tricky if you haven't been there before - but very pleased you found it and enjoyed what you found!!

Christmas & Boxing Day are both public holidays in Tanzania so our office was closed but we do have an emergency number which is on our website which should be available 24/7.

Karibu tena!

We live in Dar es Salaam and Ra Kutani is certainly my favourite of all the places that we have stayed. The staff are excellent and really will cater to your every need. The food is fantastic, the pool is great and you are right on a wonderful white sand beach. We stayed in one of the suites and had our own mini pool. It is on the hillside so the views are amazing. The only drawback for me was that the front of the room is open air (screens only) so on one night I woke up very cold. I'm probably more used to the climate here and the staff had no problem putting another blanket on the bed!

Dear vixky

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Ras Kutani and we're delighted that you rate Ras Kutani so highly and thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us. And based in Dar you can pop down and see us again very soon! Please remember we often have resident last minute specials to take advantage of - not only at Ras Kutani but also our other camps - Jongomero in Ruaha and Siwandu in Selous.

Look forward to hosting you again

Stressed by work and christmas we arrived to Ras Kutani. I switched of my mobile took off my shoes not ot put them on again for my four day stay. We were embraced by the beauty and the stillness of Ras Kutani. The elegance and taste in small but very important details of the suites, the kindness and discretion of the staff, the small size of the resort making it such an exclusive experience. A special star to the chef - a sensation of flavors to every meal. I will dream about the ananas and lime souffl;e and the cashew-macarron until I came back here! We are now contiuing our journey into the bush, very happy and content.

Thank you so much for your review - we are absolutely delighted you enjoyed your stay - managed to kick back and relax - arriving at Ras Kutani you can start to feel your shoulders drop and the stresses of modern life melt away. Removing the shoes, relaxing in a hammock or on the beach, reveling in the stillness and scrumptious food.

I hope the rest of your stay in Tanzania was just as enjoyable

Just returned from fantastic trip to Siwandu, Jongomeru and Ras Katani- all exhibit consistent excellent high standards. Excellent welcome from Lana, discreet and respectful staff, great food and chef, private dining options and what must be one of the world's best beaches for running, romantic strolls, breathtaking views while being totally unspoilt and largely deserted. The option to watch the sea turtles hatch when we arrived was a surprise bonus, as was the existence of a spa in such a small, private location. Very easy to escape to from London with easy flights to Dar es salaam which is just 10 mins away via a quick tiny plane transfer through Coastal aviation who were also excellent.

Room Tip: There is Hill House- private house as well as suites 1 and 2. Our room, 7, overlooked the lagoon an...

Dear Derbyshire12345

Thank you so much for your review - and as I mentioned in your Siwandu review - lovely that you got to experience all three of our camps - its a great itinerary and with our consistent high standard you are guaranteed an amazing stay - as the camps are all different from one another - individual quirks, varying decor, menus etc you don't feel like you're entering the same hotel again and again but a different experience at each camp.

Fantastic you managed to see the hatching - it is one of the most amazing experiences to see the turtles make their first steps towards the ocean! And also the spa offers massages after a tiring safari circuit or manicures and pedicures to really escape from the bush and relax!

And thank you for pointing out that Ras Kutani also makes a wonderful one-stop location for a holiday - you must come back and visit us again!

My wife and I stayed here at the end of our surprise honeymoon and we stayed in the Hillside Suite 4. Greeted by the manager, Lana, she was incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our entire stay.

The suite was huuuge - not only was the bed wider that 7 feet, the shower was fantastic and the plunge pool was great. Unfortunately the plunge pool did get pretty dirty most days with insects, monkey poo (!) and leaves - and to our own discredit, we didn't ask for it to be cleaned except once...as a result we didn't really use it much. We had some tiny issue pop up in the room which were very swiftly rectified when we were out of the room during the day.

The food is amazing - if anything, there is too much of it!! The cocktails went down a treat too. We were very lucky to have a suprise dinner down at the lagoon on our first evening to get us into the swing of things, with a complimentary bottle of fizz - which was very kind!

All I can say is, thank you to Lana and all the staff - you made our stay absolutely unforgetable and we left feeling very very relaxed and wishing we didn't have to come back to London!

Asante Sana!

Thank you so much for your review and congratulations on your marriage - delighted you chose to spend your honeymoon with us at Ras Kutani. We always recommend guests speak to the manager or staff is issues come up so they can be rectified - but now we know we will clean the plunge pools more regularly so guests can have full use of them at all times.

1st of all the drive wasn't as far as I had been led to believe, it is fairly easy to find, the only problem being the small ferry from Dar to Kigamboni, which gets very crowded and hectic. Ras Kutani itself was great, our welcome by Upendo was very relaxed and that set the scene for our short stay. The Bandas are all spacious and well maintained, and as long as you remember you are in Tanzania with wildlife free to roam and the Indian Ocean is right in front of you then everything is great. There was 24 hour power in all of the Bandas (you don't get that everywhere) and the bed was enormous. For us, things like hearing the monkeys on the roof; seeing trails and tracks in the sand each morning and trying to guess which aninals had visited was fun. Even though there is only the set evening meal all of the meals we had were very good, the buffet selection at lunchtime was varied and tasty and breakfast was great with the service being very good. I don't think we put our flip flops or sandals on once as we walked around the white sands of the resort or the white sands of the beach, the only (nice) problem was the sand getting too hot to walk. Even though the hotel itself was great, it was surpassed by the turtle hatching while we were there. To see the the turtles hatching and flapping down to the Ocean was magical and because it is "managed" by Sea Sense, it happens quite frequently.

Room Tip: We never looked at the suites, but they do seem to offer a very impoosing view of the resort and Oce...

Dear Grabone

Thank you for taking the time to review Ras Kutani - sounds like you really slipped into barefoot luxury with ease - bar the hot sand! As you mention in your review, one of the loveliest things about Ras Kutani is the feeling you are actually staying in Africa and not a "could be anywhere" resort - monkeys on the roof, hatching turtles and the uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean are spectacular - and the reason why guests travel to Africa and stay with us.

Arrived at Ras Kutani after a long flight and then battling with traffic in Dar a Salaam (an experience in itself) - was hot and tired.... After the drive down the unmade sandy road, the accommodation, welcome and views were well worth it. This is a little piece of heaven, just what you imagine a tropical island hideaway to be. The bed was enormous, the shower had good power and was very roomy. Everything was spotless and there were nice little touches like the sun hats and a beach bag to use. The beach was a few paces away and having the open air feeling in the 'banda' meant we really felt part of the environment especially when monkeys were jumping on the roof! The icing on the cake was being able to witness 99 sea turtles hatching and making their way on their journey to the sea - amazing:) Thanks to the team too, they were welcoming and friendly and supplied us with great meals etc. A memorable stay and highly recommended.

Dear Jayne BR

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review - Ras Kutani is a slice of beach heaven - and living in Dar es Salaam I can understand the traffic issues - did you know you can take a 10mins scheduled flight to our private airstrip - ask your tour operator!

And SeaSense do an amazing job with protecting the turtles, in fact 2 of our staff were trained by them to help with the nesting and hatchings - it is one of the most intimate, heart-warming things to watch - so we are delighted you experienced it
