I can only say good things about this property.
The views of Tropea, especially at night, are magic. The restaurant had great breakfasts and different dinners every night. There is also a small range of food, snacks & drinks available at their shop to tide you over while you laze about the pool or in your room.
The staff speak many languages and will advise about and arrange day tours for you.
There is a boat tour of the Lipari islands, with stops at 3 of them, which goes for a whole day and is wonderful.
They have a courtesy bus that takes you down the hill to town and back, every hour. It is a pleasant walk down to town which takes about 30 minutes, but you will want to take the bus back because it is all uphill.
The rooms are quite good with plenty of space. Ours had a balcony overlooking the town. Note that many of the other reviewers are Italian. This is because Tropea is one of Italy's secret spots that not many overseas tourists go to. There are certainly no bus tour groups. This makes the town an incredible place to immerse yourself in a wonderful part of Italy.

We booked in here at the last minute for a week in early October as our pre-booked Zambrone accommodation closed early for the winter. Villagio l’Olivara would not have been our advance choice from the reviews, but we had little option as train tickets were already booked. The unit was clean and had a shady balcony with a good view. However, there were some missing kitchen utensils and several drilled holes in the woodwork waiting for something to be completed. No sign of the rowdy behaviour mentioned in other reviews - probably because this was October with mainly middle-aged couples staying. The gardens were excellent.

This is the first self-catering accommodation where we have encountered a compulsory breakfast charge. The breakfast was quite a good quality and reasonable value at 35 euros per person per week; breakfast also provided a good chance every day to meet other residents - giving a useful exchange of tips on where to go etc. You may get the half board option of 140 euros per week - giving dinner with wine at 15 euros person per day. Stick to the breakfast option; the dinner was OK - a buffet with choices varying each night, but the vegetables were usually cold. We used the buffet on a casual basis - 13 euros without wine. This gave us the flexibility to eat in Tropea. The resort laid on a good minibus shuttle to town and the beach - roughly hourly, but the last bus left town at 1900.

In summary - not the best place we've encountered, but served the purpose well.

The view from Villagio L'Olivara is breathtaking. It sits on a cliff overlooking the town of Tropea, which is on a cliff overlooking the ocean.

The hotel is primarily full of Italian families or couples on vacation. They have events in the evening geared for children and also dancing by the restaurant; naturally, everything is in Italian. The food at the restaurant is decent, but some of the translations on the menu (tuned veal) will have you wondering what you will get. Many of the apartments come with kitchens, so its easier to cook anyways.

If you do not have a car, you may run into some difficulty getting around, but if you plan your day, the shuttle into town and to the beach works out just fine (*during off season, there is a fee for each trip). If you don't mind the hike, it's about 20-30 minutes into town. The markets & stores are great for buying produce and groceries, but the restaurants are all reasonably priced.

The hotel has it's own stretch of reserved beach with umbrellas and a snack bar & bathroom. The water is crystal clear, but the beach is coarse white sand, so bring shoes. The facilities overall are clean and up-to-date. Also, the staff can arrange for you to take a local boat trip to a volcano and island chain (fantastic!).

The biggest problem we ran into was that the staff speaks very little English. We managed to get by, but it was stressful at times to arrange things. I did come back knowing more Italian though!

L``Olivara are like a campus for students.
Entertaiments all day around. Not a silent time at all.

The apartment was ok but not clean. The shower curtain was full of mould and the toilet placed in a gap at the floor, not very hygienic.

The pool area was too small and you have to weare a bathing cap in the pool.

The staff was not to helpful. They spoke a little english but not much.

One thing we liked was the wiew from the balkony ,stunning.
you could se Stromboli and the sunset, nice.

So if you dont like screaming teenagers all the time stay at another hotel.

Tropea are a very beautiful town, but stay somewhere else!

Holiday Village on top of Tropea.

Excellent place if you like mountain biking :)
Renting a car is must if you don't bike.

Hotel transportation takes you down to town of Tropea few times a day (takes only 5 min). Because of siesta (1 pm-5pm) you are stuck either in town or hotel for four hours, if you don't have a car.

Taxis are rare and expensive. Always fix the price before trip!

Pool area is small, but OK. Breakfast is lousy. You have to queue for a coffee automat!

Personell is very friendly, eventhough they don't speak too much english.

Rooms are OK. They are clean and worked pretty well. The view from rooms is fantastic.

There is a TV, but programmes are all in italian.
