This had to be the absolute perfect place for viewing bears and eagles. The staff was more than helpful and respectful. knowledgeable, and enjoyed the guest too. The food was outstanding, fresh crab, halibut, and prime rib. Beautiful area, full of everything one could ask for. I highly recommend this trip.

Like some of the other reviews for this name, I am reviewing the Knight Inlet Lodge that is a collection of buildings on floats, (grizzlytours on the net) not the land building which is nearby and uses a very similar name. I was very concerned about this part of our trip as it was so expensive, costing about the same as 10 nights accomodation elsewhere, albeit with food included. We had a great time, were lucky with the weather which was dreadful just before we arrived and I was satisfied that it was money well spent. The float planes are a great experience in themselves with fabulous views, the lodge is in a fantastic location miles from anywhere with awesome scenery and just being there is a treat. Rooms are fairly basic but very comfortable, food was very good, staff helpful and the guides excellent. We booked 2 nights (including the one in Campbell River) and for that we had grizzly bear viewing when we arrived and then again after lunch and a boat tour of the inlet in the early evening before dinner. In the morning before we left, I took another boat tour while my sons went kayaking. As a previous reviewer said, don't worry about binoculars as they provide excellent quality ones as well as all outdoor clothing and boots needed. We didn't see as many bears as some previous reviewers but in total saw about 4 brown bears including one with cubs and 4 black bears which seemed good for the time of year as well as seals, eagles and some other bears. I wasn't ready to leave after 1 night but if I had the choice again, I would still do the same as I think I'd got the full experience in my time there and, as I'm on a budget, wouldn't value spending money on an extra night. However, if money is not an issue for you, I'm sure you'd enjoy a longer stay.

There are two Knight Inlet Lodges and John has the small land based one which has enough room for two families. The food was outstanding and the crab/halibut is to die for. The days are free for you to do as you please but the boats will take you out after Humpback and Orca - not forgetting the Grizzlies and the Black bear. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable and we found that after 10 hours of fresh air and a special meal from Madeline that the family just slept the remaining hours away. Great place, great atmosphere and great experience.

We stayed at The Knight Inlet Lodge from 16-20 June 2008.
The welcoming was overwhelming,as was the cooking and
guiding. We saw just everything we hoped for when we booked.
Black- and grizzley bears, whales, orka's,dolphins and bald
eagles.
So thanks again Madeleine,Kathy,Glenn and John for a
a most memorable holliday.

This is a superb place, wonderfully elegant in its location and simplicity. The skinny:

Location: simply the best. The Inlet, Campbell River (and the rest of The Island) are wonderful too.

Bears: Fantastic. But.... much better in Alaska; the viewing towers are cramped and shared with other groups.

People: mostly Brits who flew directly from LHR ignoring their numerous Canadian relatives. A few scattered others. We few Rebels were graciously received and treated well. Most are 50-70, world travelers, very well educated, and WONDERFUL new friends.

Ambiance: exactly as is should be there. Clean, simple rooms, open dining with mostly fish and shellfish they've just pulled up, (lot of good vino too).

It's a neat place. Enjoy.

Firstly I should stress that this is a review for the Knight Inlet Lodge that is a collection of buildings on floats, (grizzlytours on the net) not the land building which is nearby and uses a very similar name.

We booked direct for a 2-night trip and the only regret I have is that we didn't stump up for an extra night. It seemed really expensive when we were booking it, but I can honestly say that we thought it was worth every penny.

You don't have to take binoculars or waterproof gear with you as it's all provided. The one thing you do need is a camera. The food is excellent. Being environmentally-conscious and a floating lodge, they have bio-degradable loo paper etc. and the lights go out at around 10:00, but after a busy day in the fresh air that really isn't a problem.

We were particularly lucky with the weather. Although we went at the beginning of October we had a beautiful clear sunny day for the main bear-watching trip. The staff were all great; very friendly, very knowledgeable and very respectful of the wildlife. They take extreme care not to have an impact on the animals eg. they don't feed the bears or do anything to get them to turn up on cue. This does mean that some groups see more than others, but that's nature for you!

We saw about a dozen brown bears. Most were down by the weir stand including a mother and 4 cubs, but there were 3 sub-adult males up at the other stand where we were. Two of them played in the river for about half an hour before joining up with another one and coming to play right next to the stand. Being about 10 feet away from them was incredible.

I think there would normally be more bears around, but the lack of rainfall meant that most of the salmon hadn't yet made it that far up the river, which obviously had an affect on the number of bears. We also saw lots of American eagles, sea lions, otters, various birds and a black bear and her cub.

I could go on but I think you get the general idea and it's about 18 months since we went. If you're in any doubt - go!
