This small bar with restaurant behind is the sort that is now very hard to find in Spain. The bar staff and the owner are very friendly and each drink comes with a plateful of tasty tapas and the owner really puts his heart into cooking them. We planned to have a drink and a tapa here and then move on for the evening meal. We manged the one plate of tapas each but any more would have finished us for the later meal. Easily found on the car GPS and street parking just around the corner or a bit further away underground parking. Definitely worth revisiting. We never managed to visit their restaurant so can't comment but the bar tapas style of evening meal here was great.

This bodeguilla lost in the middle of this dark street is a real found!
The atmosphere is magical and you really feel the passion for food as the owner welcomed us in a such a friendly manner. We were first offered a glass of wine with complementary "aperitivo" and tapa...and not just your average peanuts, a real food experience, really tasty and nicely presented...and they come with each drink ordered.
We ordered 5 glasses of wine, one dish and one dessert to share, but ended up eating about 10 different tapas to share and only paid 40euros! A real bargain considering the quality of the wine, food and service.
An unmissable place if you go to Cuenca!

"La bodeguilla" lays outside the old town, in the newer part of Cuenca, but only 10 minutes walk from the cathedral. The concept here is "quality tapas" (small dishes of local food): with every drink (3 EUR) you will get an appetizer for the "tapa" and the "tapa" itself! There are 4 different "tapas" and it is worth to make it to the 4th one! The "tapas" are beautifully presented, a combination of sweet and salty flavours combining the local cuisine with modern touches. A different experience in a place with excellent service! Really worth it while visiting Cuenca! "La bodeguilla" doesn't accept reservation and they don't have lots of places to seat, so expect crowds...accept it as part of the experience!

This is a tiny place a bit of the tourist trail of he city of Cuenca but well worth the detour.
Basically a small bar leads to a small table area that leads into the even tinier eating area. Only 4 tables :)
The goods bits here?are the tapas (pinchos) in local parlance. You order a drink a the nice fellow serving will ask you if you care for an "aperitivo" or pre-tapa, Yeaps you get two tapas with one drink! Initially a small glass of something like gazpacho will come and later, and I mean later, you will get served the real tapa, a platter with anyone's guess, squids, quail's egg, small cutlets, who knows? But is quite fun to get two rounds of food with one drink.

The tiny place resembles a small cave, full of old pics of the city. you can have the tasting tapas menu for a very reasonable price but stay away from the a la carte option in the eating area, you will pay a hefty price for eating the same as in the bar, on a saloon decorated full of pics of local VIPs that paid their visit at some point.

A tip: manage your drinking if you don't want to down it before even the pre tapa arrives.

The walk down the hill through the historical center was nice, and while it might be a steep way back up it's well worth the effort. A beer costs €3, but with each one you get both a tapas and an aperitivo -- and they were all delightful: both a unique combination of flavors, and a very agreeable presentation. The small place filled up quickly, the atmosphere was pleasant, and while it was busy the service was fast.
