This is a very well presented old town. It may not be as 'important' as it used to be but there is loads of history, beautiful buildings in the town. Also we found some very good restaurants. Worth a night stay or even two.

I have wanted to visit Cuenca for many years but our sojourns through Spain for 20 years led us in different directions. I am so pleased we made the effort this year to travel and see it before we became too old and unfit to manage the steep streets and many steps. I was not disappointed. It is a fascinating little city with its hanging houses, art galleries and museums and cathedral. The atmosphere on the Friday evening with the old quarter's bars and restaurants packed with locals and visitors as well as a large party of people gathering before a wedding the next day was wonderful to experience. The environs around the city with its excellent walks along the River Huecar and the beautiful wooded areas and lagoons in the national park came as a pleasant surprise. Walkers would love this area too and find the city a fun place to see or visit.

Cannot say enough about how lovely Cuenca is, I drove their and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. farmers just gathering in miles and miles of wheat so unexpected.

Do not drive in the old Town, we visited on foot at night and it looked okay so I chanced it next day in the car as we were on route to a ferry and time was pressing - NIGHTMARE- I urge you not to try it.

the views at night & day are to die for. There's no cash machines in the old town and not all the bars accept cards. check before you buy.
