Owner description: The Museo de Arte Abstracto Español in Cuenca exhibits a permanent collection of 129 paintings and sculptures by Spanish artists of the Abstract Generation of the 1950s and 60s (Millares, Tàpies, Sempere, Torner, Rueda, Zóbel, Saura, among some thirty other artists), as well as other artists from the 1980s and 90s.In 1980, the founder of the Museum, Fernando Zóbel, donated its collection to the Fundación Juan March, which then incorporated it into its own collection. Situated in the Casas Colgadas (Hanging Houses) of the city of Cuenca, in a late-fifteenth-century medieval building, property of the city, the Museum has undergone various renovations and, in 1994, inaugurated its galleries for temporary exhibitions.

One of the most amazing museums, not only for it's content but for it's architecture and it's views. The artworks themselves were truly fascinating and piqued our curiosity about Spanish abstract art, but it was the setting that stole the show! The flow and placement of the installations through the beautiful Casa Colgadas is inspiring. Highly recommend a visit! And, for those "not into museums", this one is manageable and can be covered in an hour. Give it a shot!

A one day trip from Madrid to have an idea of the best Spanish abstract painting in a romantic place, called Cuenda. Dont' miss it!

It doesn't cost much to enter but there isn't a lot to see inside except lots of odd paintings. It's a lovely building but you have no access to the balconies which I think most people would like to see.

Well worth a trip. This is an extensive museum with varied pieces of art. Nicely situated in the town.
