“Life on Mars”

If you like the 1970's, you'll love this hotel. It's like a step back in time, complete with red and white leatherette furniture and wood effect panelling. On the positive side, the hotel is very clean, with a good maid service every day. The communal areas are very clean, as is the dining area. The meals are buffet style, and tend to be a little repetitive, although there's always something for everybody. My wife and I are both vegetarian, and on some days there was very little other than chips...it was often difficult to tell what certain dishes were as they weren't labelled. However, on the whole, dining was a pleasant experience (the food was always hot). We went all inclusive with drinks being served in little plastic cups, with only 2 drinks per order. The only snacks available during the day were cold ones...cheese and ham slices with bread, fruit etc. There weren't any hot snacks between meal times. The one issue I had was with noise. The walls seemed to be paper thin, and some of the guests got very drunk and would often roll in late arguing and shouting...entertaining but not great for a good night's sleep! The other negative was the resort itself. The beach was lovely (albeit with a lot of litter) but parts of the resort look like a shanty town, with buildings in various states of disrepair and grafitti. There also seems to be an issue with prostitution in the resort. Although we wouldn't go back to El Arenal, I can honestly say that we've had a good 4 night stay at the Caribbean Bay...You can also use the facilities at the sister hotel, the Palm Bay, although this does not include the restaurant. You'll probably need to go there for games etc. as there are hardly any (or any entertainment) at the Caribbean Bay. A good choice for a short stay, with good value for money.

I booked without setting my standards too high because for four night AI it was a bargain.
My heart sank when the taxi was driving round the near by streets which had all seen better days but when we pulled up outside I had a massive sigh of relief.
The hotel is very modern and unbelievably clean. The staff are fab and really looked after us. The drinks selection was great even though everything stops at 11pm...there are about four supermarkets in the vicinity and plenty of bars on the sea front which is minutes away from the hotel.
There was always a selection of food available (the snack bar left a bit to be desired) some of the concoctions at dinner weren't to my taste like the squid hotpot type dish but hey ho there was always fresh salads and again for the price paid I wasn't expecting Michelin stars. Would we go again? Definitely.

Clean hotel, nice enough staff, food was ok. In a nice location, just a few minutes walk from the beach. Only bad incident was when they ruan out of toilet roll and said there was nothing they could do ha! As well there are no food/drink facilities after 11 o clock, not even water. Lunch and dinner were much better than breakfast.

We stayed for a week as a female family of 3 we made many friends and that helped to have an excellent stay at this hotel. It was exceptionally clean can't complain about the food there was always something for everyone. The only critiscm was that the all inclusive bar served your drinks in plastic cups at all times of the day. The weekend entertainment was a disco which turned out be very enjoyable dj played almost all English music. I think you will be hard pressed to complain about the hotel, there are plenty of shops bars and restaurants within 5mins of the hotel.

Good points ..hotel was very modern and clean and bright, nice staff room cleaned every day and clean towels, bedding changed every 4 days but ours never got changed!!!.food was repetitive but nice and something for everyone, pool was nice but not many sunbeds as the towel brigade had them reserved even though it said not to.ask for a room higher up or at the back because the noise from the disco and smoking area was very loud.not really good for kids as there was no entertainment only a disco a few times while we were there. The sister hotel is 15 mins down the street and you can use there facilities,it was much bigger with more pools and things to do if you have kids.they also had bingo and entertainment for adults. The staff all work really hard and are jack of all trades. The streets are very steep and not good for elderly or anyone with walking difficulties, beach was lovely and the bus stops outside the hotel that takes you to palma, only 1,20 euro well worth a visit lots of shops and gorgeous cathedral.few bad points...bathroom was tiny and if you are a large person you will struggle to sit on the loo, they have crammed as much as they can into a small space.only one on to serve at the bar then they disappear to do other jobs, the beds are like camp beds not at all comfy, all in all we enjoyed it just a few niggles but would return,if only for matteus hahah the manager, really nice man with a smile for everyone.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less traffic and disco noise, but you can never stop the idiots who wake the whole...

Stayed for 3 nights 7th-10th April, was low season so was nice and quiet, the roof was a gorgeous sun trap and when the pool is completed will be a great sun soaking relaxation area, good location, if you do stay here make sure you go to the bar called de Heeren van Amstel, very very friendly people and great night out ;)

For the price, good food, clean, comfortable accommodation. The staff were very helpful in all situations. Not the quietest of places, but that's because there were Brits staying there. The higher the room, the less noise you get. Unless you want to join in all the fun!

Room Tip: If you don't like your room, ask the staff to change it.
