Recently took advantage of a short break & stayed HB at the Torre Azul a 4* high rise hotel in Arenal, Majorca.

Reading previous reviews suggested we might be in for a horror show although nothing could be further from the truth & all things considered including the price we paid it was excellent value.

True the room on the 12th & highest floor was somewhat tired however it was clean,
& tidy, fully functional with comfortable beds. Daily maid service was excellent with the hotel very clean throughout.

We were greeted with a welcome drink and on HB basis enjoyed both breakfast & evening meals which included a free glass of wine & water.

The food, buffet style,was excellent if at times somewhat lukewarm - there being a wide choice of menu for all tastes. The waiting staff, as with all within the hotel being courteous & friendly.

The pool was well maintained with a number of new sun loungers & tables/ chairs surrounding it - Seemed somewhat small for the size of the hotel which may have been a problem in the height of summer, albeit that said we had no problem in getting a seat, etc., and Arenal beach is only a 10minute walk away.

The hotel boasts many well appointed lounges and quiet areas with a piano
In the bar which would have been nice to have heard being played by way of some evening entertainment as the room TVs only really catered for German & other European countries, there being no music channels & only BBC World News in English.

There are some small eateries in the immediate locality but the main restaurants & bars are to be found down on the seafront.We did find one small gem of a restaurant Casa Da Pulpa, 2 mins away, that did amazing fish dishes & a menu of the day that included starter, main, dessert, wine or beer for 10€ all in.

After reading quite a few horrific reviews about Torre Azul prior to traveling, myself and the War Office didn't have high hopes for the holiday ahead!

But....... We were very happily surprised.

Yes, fair enough, the room was a little tired (presumably due to the high volume of use) and on 2 nights the meals we chose were not quite to our liking (down to what we chose rather than a quality issue) but overall it was a very pleasant experience.

* Staff were very helpful and friendly

* Food was off good quality with plenty of choices

* Hotel was spotlessly clean

* Spa was good

The only 2 suggestions for improvement I would make are:

Renew the headboard and chairs in the room (1018) as they are looking a bit tired

An evening entertainment program would be nice

So my last thing to do is say "Thank you Torre Azul" for a wonderful stay

When we arrived at the hotel, we were impressed, the manager had saved us some food as we had a late flight. Our room was ok, the shower was great. The food was good and we felt we had a good choice.
The weather was not so good one day so we decided we would visit the in house spa. We asked the guy on reception to pay, he told us it was locked and he could not open it for 10 minutes, he then tended to some German customers, then went home, leaving me and my husband stood there. We asked the next member of staff to use the spa, he just gave us our locker keys and towels...the spa was open and unlocked. The night before we left I asked the lady at reception if we could pay for a late checkout, she said I needed to ask her colleague, Viktor bin the morning. I saw Viktor the next morning ( the same guy who had left us standing), when I asked him about keeping our room on, he laughed at me and asked if I had seen the arrivals today and pointed to the personal information on new guests arriving today which were spread out on the counter.
Although we paid for fully inclusive, my husband was told of in the dining room for using the coffee machine at lunchtime and was told he could only use this at breakfast!
We certainly felt we were treated by staff as 2nd class citizens compared to the Germans.
We will not visit again, due to the attitude of the staff towards us.

How on earth does this hotel get a 4* rating, I have been in better 2* & 3 *. As most people have said the Reception area is good and warrants 4* but when you get past there, no way is it 4*. The rooms are very run down, on our room the shower leaked and a horrible smell when you ran the hot water, the light flickered under what might be called something like a dressing table, rooms are small so no chairs. If you are coming to this adults only hotel to escape screaming kids think again because next to the pool is a nursery with screaming kids most of the morning, only the Spanish could think of building an adults only hotel next to a nursery. However the staff are very good and the food is good.
