First of all, if you want a resort of great beauty do not choose Arenal, it is tired and much in need especially in the area where the hotel is. Having said that the hotel does stand out and it is clear it has been upgraded in recent years. The staff are very friendly and do try hard, and it is basically clean. The food is average, but do remember the hotel is trying to cope with (mainly) German, plus Spanish and French clients and Britons are very much in the minority so you will not get an English style of cooking.
If you can stretch to it, the junior suites are quite spacious, the standard rooms are not very large but whatever you get the view will either be the hotel next door or the street and shops that surround it. Finally distance to the beach seems to vary with each review but it is a downhill walk of 300 yards, which is fine except that it is 300 yards uphill going back !
Overall reasonably enjoyable if you do not expect too muchMore
