It is not often you get the chance to find a lovely hotel right on the beach - but this hotel is exactly that - just a promenade path in between the hotel and beach. We travelled with our father-in-law who has been 5 times to this hotel - and I can see why. For the elderly it is a dream come true. To be able to sleep at night with the balcony doors wide open and drift off to sleep with the sound of the sea - is truly wonderful and very relaxing. The staff were wonderful and the rooms were very clean. The hotel entertainment was very good. The lady singer had a voice better than I have heard on any West End Show, and she was also giving dance lessons. Lots of fun and dancing and the drinks terrace for the evening and cocktail list amazing. Becauses Roses is so flat and the Promenade so good, anybody with walking difficulties would love this place - it is all so user friendly. I didn't care for the hotel food - but I can see why my father-in-law liked it - it was quite plain and could have been a lot better.

Room Tip: Rooms 502 and 503 - family rooms - have wonderful private balconies and the most amazing sea views

What a pleasant hotel. We were greeted very friendly by the front office staff as one of them even accompanied us to our room.
Though it is an old hotel, we had a very pleasant experience with wine and dine included in the BB rate offered. Breakfast was not too bad either.
The hotel is situated right on the beach and although it was cold and rainy on the day we stayed there, it was very pleasant to hear the noise of the sea whilst sitting on the balcony.
Roses is a very pretty place and reminded me of my home town, Knysna, South Africa!

Slept there one night.
First we were given an already occupied room by mistake because of the high traffic they had that day. (They did warn us that this might happen so we did not just go into the room but knocked first).
After that they rectified the situation and even upgraded us to a room with a view to the see.
Great bed and great view. Also very good breakfast.
The only bad thing I can say is that it doesn't have WiFi in the room but only in the hotel lobby and that didn't work well too.
Other than that the staff was very nice and the room was very clean.

Room Tip: rooms that begin with small numbers face the see (401,402....)

This hotel is located on the beach about a 15 min walk into the centre of Roses. It is very clean and the room that we had was airy and serviced very well. Alas the location of the room above the main entrance was not good. We overlooked the public carpark and central bins which distracted somewhat from the seaview. On our first night we were woken by the hotel staff emptying the bottles into the glass bank at 1.30am! My husband bellowed " Bravo" and pointed to his watch, after this the bottles were emptied no later than 11.30pm. Also coaches loading guests kept their engines running and this, on some occasions, started at 5.15am and continued until 6am departure. The food was plentiful but not very good, breakfast choice was the worst of any that I have had with poor quality meats, cheese and cereals. Coffee was the best thing about breakfast. Dinner was better but there were hardly any vegetables and lots of meat mainly pork and hardly any Spanish or Catalan dishes.
The dinner menu is posted every day but is not printed in English, neither are any signs apart from the one warning you not to take food from the dining room.
Every night there was a fish dish and pasta but the pasta was usually overcooked. The dining room at night was crowded and very noisy, dinner was from 20.00 until 22.00 and I guess by this time most people were ready to eat so there was a bit of a rush. Lastly we were not keen on being told where to sit and having to share a table. We were told it was not possible to have our own but some tables were available but no real explanation was given. Lastly the hotel encouraged the use of the safety deposit boxes in the rooms, as there was absolutely no where to hide anything in the room we took one. I was shaken when I was asked to hand over 46 euros for 2 weeks with 10 being refunded if I took the key back! An absolute rip off but in my shock I handed over the money. The staff by the way are in the main multi lingual but are not keen to speak English, they seem happy to converse in French and German but English is "difficult". I ordered drinks in Spanish and was given the bill in German, when I asked the waiter to speak English he frowned and sighed, so I asked for the bill in French. Voila! No problem. For the next to weeks he greeted me in German and we went through the same scenario every night. Would we return? Definitely not.

Room Tip: Rooms over reception are noisy, sea facing may be better but remember the entertainment is below you...

We went by coach, that transported our cycles in a trailer from England. The area of Roses is excellent for cycling with a lot of Dutch people in the area, as they are regular cyclists at home. It was easy to cycle around the beach area and on the prom as it was a recognised cycling route. Shopping was easy as there is a Mercadona, Lidl and Aldi close by. The hotel was a good base and food nothing special, just adequate. We were on half board. Wireless internet in reception was quite cheap. It was nice to be somewhere where it is still very spanish with Tapas bars and menu del dia widely available.
