“WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, DON PEDRO”
Reviewed October 18, 2011

Just back from another two week stay at the Don Pedro. This is my second time this year and we are already booked to go back in May and September next year. At the risk of sounding boring - I just can't thank all the Don Pedro staff for looking after us so well. Margarite and Reception staff who are so helpful. They really all work together like a family. If you would like a really relaxing friendly smiley holiday - you will find all of this at the Don Pedro. We met up with six couples who have been going to the Don Pedro for many years (which is a testament in itself) and had a great laugh. We enjoyed really good food (Chef visiting everyone in the Dining Room to make sure they were enjoying his food). Thank you to Juan and his staff in the Dining Room for looking after us.; The Bar staff are wonderful and the drinks are lovely. The bedrooms are cleaned to perfection. The maintenance staff are on hand to put things right. The Animation Team keep everyone amused through the day and the evening. There were three outside shows which were really good. The Sundaes, Michael Jackson Tribute and a young group of singers and dancers who were excellent. You can even win some big money on the nightly Bingo and a bottle of champagne in the quiz. Overseeing all of this is Jame and Diego - the Management Team - who quietly mingle to make sure everyone is happy. I'm sure they have magic dust which they sprinkle on everyone as they come into Reception, as there are a lot of smiley faces around. The view from the hotel is breathtaking. There are plenty of sun-loungers. What could be better that a lovely cool glass of rose' sitting in one of the friendliest hotels in Majorca?????

Lets get the bad stuff out of the way.
This review covers my whole holiday experience from booking to submitting this my first review.
This year I turned 50 and as I'm a twin I'd had a 'cunning plan' to do something special to celebrate this event with my former fellow egg divider.
I'd contacted my sister in-law to try to arrange some kind of get together and had been advised that plans where already afoot with location dates etc, and so armed with the dates for the holiday, I attempted to navigate what must surely be the lamest web site I have ever encountered.
I tried booking under the various options the site appears to offer such as by Hotel name tried several variations of Don Pedro such as Hi don Pedro, Hotel Don Pedro, even tried adding the location first with Majorca then Mallorca, then Cala San Vicente and all possible derivatives.
After several attempts including another option which entailed booking via a search by the Hotels class 3 star, three star 3 * (you getting my drift?) Out of frustration I thought I'd try to use the telephone help line provided.
As I was calling after 8pm (GMT) the phone was answered by a Indian Call centre and I explained the problems I was having and the operative attempted to assist me and book the holiday with the dates I provided, then said there was a problem with the website, finally saying the dates I'd chosen where not available (1st October - 15th October).
I thanked him for his efforts and resigned myself to a trip to the local High Street TC shop but was determined to try one last time on my computer using the fingers and legs, arms and eyes crossed method, this technique I'd later regreted not using before, as finally I was somehow able to negotiate my way around and booked the so called non existent Hotel Don Pedro in Cala San Vicente, Mallorca.
So Here's my first moan or complaint if you like; (perhaps I could add that whilst watching the Hotels BBC news whislt during my Holiday,I watched a report that the uk unemployment figures had reached 2.75 million) Surely at least one of them is a competent website designer?
Ok moan number two (#2 :), having followed this hotel via its reviews on TripAdvisor, I had become slightly concerned about the reported thefts at the hotel in the last two weeks prior to my planned vacation out there, so did what I would encourage all other people to do and created a account so that I could ask previous guests what had occured and what had been done about these incidents.
I should like to thank those members who responded to my queries and their suggestions of hiring a safe for 'peace of mind' for the length of my trip.
This is in fact my second whinge if you like.
Now this hotel after most of the kiddletts have gone back to school is predominately used and frequented by the more senior citizens, some if not most would be pensioners and with many spending perhaps three to four weeks out in the Hotel, now that's got to be a serious and very expensive way of purchasing their 'peace of mind' As for two weeks hire including insurance it comes to 48 euros of which 10 euro's are refunded as a deposit.
Corporate greed on behalf of TC? or combining the same post of customer insurance/ web designer and a reluctance to search for cheaper alternated insurance provider? You decide!

In my Hotel room, which following another 'tip' from the trip advisor website I'd managed to get upgraded via a e-mailed request to the Hotel. I'd noticed that my shower appeared to have a mind of its own and behaved like a cobra on liquid viagra! causing my bathroom floor to get very wet whenever used.
On every floor except on weekends there appears to be a sort of Chamber(person:) supervisor who goes around checking on the efforts of her charges.
I reported my shower problem to her and she asked if I was leaving the room (I was on my way to use the free wi-fi sited on the ground floor so I could fb my brother and tell him and his friends not to waste their money on hiring a safe as I'd already got one we could all use)
on my return to my room, the showers retaining fixture and a new flexible hose and shower head had been provided. Amazing just how far a few well placed please and thank you's delivered with a warm smile garners the right response.
I then left my room headed up to reception to pay my compliments via the reception staff.
Whilst there I waited patiently behind a Gentleman who'd apparently left his manners on the flight out there and had to endure his tirade to the unfortunate receptionist.
Now it would be perhaps naughty to identify this particular non-happy chappy by referring to the region he appeared to come from, so instead and as a Man of Kent myself I will only make a guess that he's actually a 'Kentish Man' and add that I may have finally met in person Mr. Angry from *Tonbridge Wells (*Royal, lets keep it topical :)
He's obviously either a balding middle manager with no more hair left to form a forelock and therefore denied by genetics any future further opportunities for advancement and promotion or a King Edward producing Farmer judging by the weight of the two he'd been carrying equally on each shoulder.
I sometimes wish these people would forego their trips to the same place as me and alternatively book to a nearer destination closer to home, such as France, where they'd soon find how far they'd get with their rudeness and crass lack of respect.
After all how hard is it to say please and the occasional thank you?
Perhaps I'm being a tad too harsh on him as at least he'd actuall bothered to raise his concerns and therefore bring it to the Hotels attention, unlike some who would rather moan to all any any who'd bother to listen, like the moan about carpets (remember the 'musty' carpets moan?) well we heard one in the restaurant so I thought I'd personally investigate;
Fact there are at least three carpets, all on the first floor, they are laid there to soak up any moisture /wetness from numpty's re entering the Hotel before drying off and therefore creating a slipping hazard (lets not forget the main 'guest' group this time of year.
There are no other carpets that I could see through out the Hotel and the ones I have mentioned are changed every day as my room was directly above where they are brought into the Hotel

Perhaps most disappointing of all is a sign in the restaurant that I found personally offensive, I have taken a photograph of it and could upload If requested to as it also contains the Spanish translation and reads ; Half Board Area (Area de Media Pension)
The sort of sign that would not be out of place in the deep south in the States during the 50-60's a sort of sign Rosa Parkes would have had to endure.
I thought this sort of thing had been confined to the dustbin of history.
I'd asked why it was up but no one could give me a satisfactory answer let alone justify it with an excuse?
Corporate Policy or don't give a s**t , know your place you loathsome plebs?
Incidentally I was All inclusive.

Final bleat. Our flight back to Old Blighty on the 15th was delayed on the plane and we where subject to about 40 minutes delay so as the air-con on the plane began to make my throat dry I asked one of the stewardesses with the drinks trolley if she had any Pepsi which she handed over to me and then hit me with the request whilst deploying a very disarming smile for £1.60.
Now as I've mentioned, the smile I was not expecting and certainly her co- trolley operative had neither deemed it necessary to deploy the same tactic, nor evidently had been to the same in-house course, but I did expect them to either don Highway(persons:) masks or at least give the other 5 cans to my immediate co cabin companions.
Or maybe its the same person who designs the website, finds the insurance, buys the Pepsi (obviously a 'Coke' fan and someone who has never taken 'The Challenge')

Now to the positive stuff, and there are sooooooo many of them.

As I'd mentioned before, I'd been following this Hotel via its reviews (well there was no point using its official page) and as I'd be out there all on my own for my first week (won't go into the reasons except to say a contributing factor was the non navigable website but also on account of a hiccup with my Brothers and his parties travelling plans.
I'd read a recent report from a 'Single' traveller which concerned me, especially as I'd be spending the first week as a single traveller myself.
Well on my first evening there, a slightly younger couple than me, asked if I'd like to join them at their table and after that several people asked and encouraged me to join them which I did (Lynx affect? doubt it, I'd like to think it's down to my well practised 'Kev home alone technique', perfected over many years.
I have rated the Hotel based on my experiences over two weeks and they are as follows, out of 5 ; Location 5, accommodation 4, Hotel Cleanliness 5, Room Cleanliness (daily if required) 5, Food 5 choice 4, Restaurant combined service and cleanliness 5.
Effort of all Staff in their dealing and responding to my needs 5.
I'd like to thank especially two of the Staff Margeritta (reception) and Juan (restaurant)
for making my stay such an unbelievably enjoyable and unforgettable one..

Room Tip: Send a polite e-mail with details of your request eg 3 or 4th floor with sea views please try to s...

We stayed in the Don Pedro at the end of September. The foyer is lovely but no-one sits in it as all the action is on the floors below. Our room was tiny, we couldn't have crossed at the bottom of our beds together. It was clean, a little tired decor wise but we did have a pleasant sea view. We were unlucky to be directly above the entertainment lounge and the thud, thud of the music nearly had us jumping out of bed at times, but it did stop at 12.00pm. We stayed all inclusive which was well worth it, the food was vey good, plentiful and lots of variety. There were even snacks of burgers, pizzas etc inbetween if you felt peckish. The drink was served as fast as lightening and was adequate. I have never seen more hardworking restuarant staff in my life. The hotel restuartant doors open directly onto an outside seating area overlooking the sea. It is really lovely but a bit spoiled by the tacky white plastic chairs you have to sit on. The pool is just that a rectangular pool nothing special. I would recommend this hotel to people who like their food, enjoy cheapish drink, like a bit of karoke in the evening with a bit of bingo thrown in, not great but not bad either and the price for the stay was reasonable £960 for 2 adults flying from Belfast including transfers and all inclusive for a week.

Room Tip: Ask for a room well away from the entertainments lounge.

Just back from one week at the Don Pedro, and loved every minute. The hotel is old but spotless with all staff very friendly and helpful. The views and scenery are amazin with us expierencing calm waters for the first 4 days which was excellent for snorkelling (linda may argue) and what looked like a tsunami for the last three days but all totaly breathtaking. The food for a 3* hotel is fantastic. The entertainment was suprisingly good as there had been a few poor reviews. It is also a great base to see many other great places within the area (do not miss Pollenca market on sunday in the old town, beautiful). Do not listen to the thomas cook rep as was given some duff advice regarding trips, taxi prices etc and use the local bus which is dirt cheap instead. Already looking to book for 2012. Amazin!!!!! Cheers girls...

Room Tip: get a see view if you can as it is to die for!!!!!

Stayed at hotel, 20th September.Weather very good.Transfer took 1 hr and dropped off first.Great room 433 with sea view.Twin beds pushed together very comfortable. We hired safe in room we always do. We were told some people did have things taken from room, but think this happens at a lot of hotels. Food, good with snacks all day. If you want to take drinks round pool you need plastic glass.Pool did not seem to get very warm sun not on till late morning. No diving or jumping in pool. You do need shoes on in sea because pebbles cut yout feet.Beach towels for hire 8euro per week but they do change them for you every day. Entertainment not that great but they do try their best.Very quiet area with a few shops but there is Irish bar short walk down the road which we enjoyed a walk in the evenings, also very safe to walk round at night . Just accross the road is bus stop which costs 1.10 euro one way to port pollensa and you would need to change bus it you want to go to alcudia.Taxi back from port pollena 12 euro. All prices are on a board and fixed so no rip off.We did enjoy our stay at this hotel and all the staff were very helpful.People do seem to return here year after year so think that speaks for its self. And for the price you pay yes we would come back. I think some people expect too much from a 3star hotel all inclusive

Room Tip: Ask for high floor sea view
