Just back from a two week stay at this aging hotel and can confirm that it meets most of the requirements for a 4 star rating. The food is worthy of 5 stars, we both found the beds to be very comfortable, and we didn’t meet any unsatisfied customers.

However, I think most people are looking for two things in a review - reassurance if they have already booked, and warnings if they have not. So here are the things we wish we had known before we booked:

(1) Thomas Cook have decided only to supply a Rep and local office at Calla Millor for their German customers, the British are just given the telephone number of a company called ‘Connected Service’ who employ a couple of girls in an office situated in a remote part of Alcudia. The girls have been trained to sort out hotel problems by contacting the reception on your behalf and fob-off all other complaints such as problems associated with airport transfer etc by telephone.
(2) The reception try to allocate as many mountain facing rooms (see picture) as they can because most people would prefer the fantastic views on the other side of the hotel, many of which have been sold as apartments (see them for sale for 150000 euros in the estate agents window across the road). These rooms are taken up by the regulars who are mostly German who insist on the wonderful view and we were advised by a receptionist that the only method of guaranteeing one of these is to stipulate when booking direct with them at least 6 months in advance.
(3) The 2 queues for having a chef to grill the fresh fish and meat whilst you wait say it all. The shorter queue is for Maria who ruins everything she cooks and drizzles garlic sauce all over everything she can. The longer queue is for the male chef on the other side who actually listens to what is being requested – well done / rare, sauce? etc.
(4) The sewage smell in reception area and occasionally in the corridors near the lift is probably due to the age of the building. This only occurs at certain times of the day when the reception are not so busy.
(5) The attitude of all the reception staff except one was completely different depending on which nationality they were dealing with and it was most noticeable during the lengthy waits to get served. This is caused by ignorant people from countries who do not like to queue like us brits.
(6) Room cleaning was only just acceptable and my wife needed to clean the toilet herself after a few days as it started to smell. The balcony was never touched with a mop or cleaning cloth during the entire two weeks we stayed there.
(7) Evening entertainment was provided about 3 times a week and was quite poor. The only two we liked were the girl violinist and a couple of lads known as ‘El Duo’.
Now for the good stuff, Gardens were lovely, the sunbeds on the peaceful atmosphere of the private beach are more comfortable and worth 4 euros each for the day. However, you may need to go down early to get one of the few straw umbrellas.

The bike hire is also good value because they are charged for by the hour and only cost a maximum of 12 euros for the day each. Mostly flat and on cycle tracks off the road towards Calla Bona.

Dear client
First of all thank you very much for the friendly email regarding your last stay with us.
It is always a pleasure to receive a detailed feedback of our clients. It helps us to improve our service and get better in meeting the requirements of our guests.

You are completely right that nowadays there are a lot of people checking the review before or after booking a hotel. Therefore we thank you for the indication of what information are missing.

Now we would like to point out some matters as they seem to be misunderstandings:

1. Pool facing rooms: It is not true that there is a better chance in receiving one of these rooms if you book directly with us.
The hotel doesn’t distinguish the guests and it doesn’t matter if you book with a travel agency or directly with us.
We foresee the rooms exclusively depending on existing room requests and availability.
We always recommend to send us the room request at the earliest possible so that we can fulfill the request, especially for poolside rooms as they are preferred.
We have never sold any apartments. That is a wrong information!

2. Show Cooking: We were very confused about your sensation towards Maria, because she is one of our most valued staff with many positive comments from our guests. But nevertheless we have forwarded your critique so that she is able to pay attention to her work.

3. Reception staff: Please apologize if you felt disadvantaged. Be sure that it has nothing to do with the nationality. You can surely understand that we have nothing against the 3.000 British who visit us every year.

4. Smell in reception area: Once a year we do a drainage line of our landing stage which courses a sewage smell.

5. Evening entertainment: We do have entertainment 4 times and 5 respectively

All the other matters we see them as animations which we gladly accept. We will do our best to realize them in the nearer future.

We hope that we can welcome you once again and remain at your entire disposal for any further queries.

Best regards
Your hotelmanager

Stayed there last week on a 5 day break. The staff could not be more accommodating. E-mails were responded to promptly; reception excellent; rooms first class (but would have liked tea/coffee making facilities); all staff cheerful & helpful; food very good at breakfast and dinner; - the whole place is very clean & tidy. A lovely quiet setting with amazing views.
They arranged golf at 3 local courses - all spectacular.
This was my second visit, but it won't be the last!

Room Tip: Higher floors are the best. North facing get morning sun; south facing superb sunsets.

This Hotel is one of my favourites and I always look forward to staying there. The food is fantastic and for us it is a break which takes only one hour forty five mins from Exeter airport which is an added bonus,we can be in the hotel from our home in under four hours, with sun and relaxation and amazing luxury.

Room Tip: Try to get a front facing room overlooking the main pool

Probably the only place in Mallorca where there is only one hotel in the resort - and what a hotel! Personally, I enjoyed the retro entrance with the old Eurotel sign but, as mentioned in other reviews, the rooms have been refurbished (several times in some instances), and are all of a very good size and standard. We requested a room overlooking the coastline so that we ended up with sunshine in the afternoon and evening. If this is an issue then ask for a room overlooking the pine trees, and you'll get the sun in the morning (rooms all have awnings which prevent direct sunlight from being a problem).
Bedding was changed every two days (much appreciated), the rooms were very well cleaned, and bathroom shampoos/gels always replenished.
The professionalism displayed by all of the staff was excellent. It's worth noting that the reception staff all have to speak Spanish, English, German, and French, which gives you some idea of the make-up of your fellow guests. As for age, we were there in May, and it was predominantly middle-aged and upwards. I was informed by one of the staff that it gets very hectic in August when the school holidays make an impact.
The hotel facilities are very good, and should meet most requirements. Everything is kept clean - one of my few gripes concerns the crockery in the restaurant which seems to be reaching the end of its natural life. There is a very good selection of food at both breakfast and dinner, and the staff performed heroics in ensuring that everything was replenished on a regular basis. The gardens are very well maintained, and it was a joy to stroll down to the private beach, and enjoy the view across the bay.
The area surrounding the hotel is made up exclusively of extremely expensive villas which means that there is little or no noise at night (apart from a few dogs). You can walk into Cala Bona in about 45 minutes or take either the euphemistically named 'city bus' or the 'train' both of which run to Cala Bona and Cala Millor every half hour. The bus is cheaper, and less painful on the backside. Car hire would enable you to see many of the villages in the region which are well worth a visit or hiring a bike is a good alternative in this area.
Overall, a very relaxing experience made all the more so by the staff and their professional attitude. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: For morning sun choose a room facing the pine trees, for afternoon/evening sun ask for a room overlo...

We loved this hotel! It's a wonderful place for a quiet break. Ignore the 60s look of the main building's exterior - a lot of work has been done to bring the whole place up to the latest standards. This is the sort of hotel where you can relax in a pleasant atmosphere. And it's the atmosphere that makes it special - very civilised, quite well-heeled, and very welcoming. We were on half-board. Self-service breakfast and dinner were both outstanding. Rarely seen such choice. Extensive choice of fish and meat cooked as you watch. Nice little village just outside the hotel with a good general store and what looked like a pleasant cafe.
Mostly German guests, then Brits and French. Most were aged 50 plus, and most of them made an effort to dress up a little for dinner.
Little quibbles - breakfast fruit juices not that great, gym a little tired, charges for using sun loungers on beach, charges if you use the spa more than once. But these were minor snags.
Highly recommended for a get-away-from-it-all break.

Room Tip: high floor overlooking the pool was good for us

Nice, large rooms. The food was brilliant. I cannot think of anything missing at breakfast. Staff are very efficient and polite. The location is beautiful but we prefer the Pollenca region. This hotel is too cut off for our liking but if you don't mind eating in the same restaurant then you don't need to even leave the hotel grounds. Many guests return year after year and are very nice, mature German and Spanish couples in the main. We liked the hotel but feel that our 2nights was long enough. I would NOT be happy to let children swim in the sea here. Very rocky. Cannot comment on the Spa as it was CLOSED for essential work when we arrived. Luckily our next hotel had a Spa that was open. Very nice ladies on reception made us feel very welcome. The outdoor swimming pool looked lovely but we wondered where everyone would sit as there are signs to keep off the grass.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool side for a better view.

This hotel is on a small peninsular outside Cala Bona far enough away from hustle and bustle. With great pools and shady areas, a private beach, good restaurants and in a beautiful private residential area it represents a lovelly place for a family break.

The staff were wonderful and the place was clean and comfortable. The only reason this place doesnt get a 5 star rating from me is that the entertainment isn't so much as poor... more like cringingly bad... x factor auditions are a clear class above!

I particularly objected to my ears being assaulted by the murdering of 'Is this the way to Amarillo'...no its just the way to annoy the &^%$ out of me....The only saving grace being that this hotel is well insulated and therefore we couldnt hear the crooning from our room. Shame as otherwise wonderful...

Room Tip: Soom roms overlook the pool and get sun late in the day...others face the other side and get sun in...
