We really liked this hotel! It has an excellent location and the hotel area itself is very appealing. We payed an extra 50 euros and ended up in a room with a huge balcony with its own sunbeds plus a small kitchen. We were very satisfied with that. We weren't to thrilled about how the room was decorated though, it could have been better. Staff in general were friendly, except for one or two receptionist that seemed bothered whenever we wanted to ask something. But besides from those grumpy people, we liked them all. We would definitely recommend this hotel if you want to go to Ayia Napa. The hotel outweighs the rather dull town that Ayia Napa really is.

We picked this hotel to stay at with our 2 year old daughter as it is a Thomson Family Resort.

Room was a bit of a disappointment. We booked a family suite which on the website is split level. However when we arrived we realised it was split level which made it difficult to put our daughter to sleep whilst we used the lounge as there is nowhere free from noise. We asked about this and were told the family suites in the bungalows were proper 1 bed apartments but none were free. The accommodation is also a little dated to be rated a 4 star plus.

Food was good. Variety was good although by the end of the week there were some repeats. Deserts were a bit repetitive. Service was very good and staff made a real effort to make sure you were happy with things.

The entertainment crew from thomson were excellent and there were plenty of things for kids to do. Our daughter loved the mini disco that went on for an hour each evening.

Overall this was a good holiday (weather was great) although we probably wouldnt go back as the room style didn't suit us - we tend to make a point of looking for hotels that offer one bed suites.

Room Tip: try and get a room in the bungalows - newer rooms and a bit quieter

Hiya. We travelled to the Atlantica Sungarden hotel in a group of 7 - 3 adults, 4 teenagers - on the 22nd July for 10 days.

Rooms:
We all had sea view rooms, and I can't even express how absolutely stunning the view was - I have included some pictures but it doesn't even come close to seeing it in person. The rooms were very spacious with good wardrobes, a tv with a few English speaking channels and a lovely private balcony. The bathroom was also of good size, with an adequate bath and shower. They were cleaned every day and the maids were always pleasant and friendly. What more do you want from a room on holiday, they're only for sleeping and getting ready in anyway!

Food and drink:
The food was gorgeous! Delicious selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Freshly cooked, always piping hot and a wide variety to choose from. We have stayed in several all inclusives and this was by far the best food. The manager is always walking around at meal times and stops to say hello and have a chat - a lovely personal touch.
The waiting staff are some of the most hardworking we have ever seen. During meal times and at the bar in the evening you don't have to go and get your own drinks - the staff come up to you and you order via them. I would say at least 99% of the staff had a smile on their face at all times and there was only one girl who looked miserable a lot of the time (keep an eye out for the Cher Lloyd lookalike!!! Uncanny!) The drinks weren't the watered down stuff you can sometimes get with AI and they were not stingy on the shots!!! The pool bar was a little crowded sometimes but you didn't queue for more than a few minutes.

Location - hotel grounds, pools & beach etc:
The location of the hotel was by far the best aspect of the whole holiday. The sea view rooms were so stunning, and it was a joy to wake up to the crystal clear blue sea every morning. The hotel is a little while out of town - around a 20/25 minute walk or an inexpensive taxi ride. We walked in to town a few evenings to do some shopping but it was choc a block with rowdy teens and we preferred the hotel most nights. The outside pools facing the sea were extremely clean and nothing compares with the view from the infinity pool - so calm and relaxing! The only thing I would say is that the water is always very warm and with the stifling heat of Cyprus in July and August, it can feel a little suffocating when you just want to cool down. We didn't ever go around to the other larger pool where the activities were as it was very crowded and we never used the sunbeds around the infinity pool because they were always reserved with towels really, really early in the morning and there was no breeze around the pool anyway which made it almost too uncomfortably hot at some points. There are an abundance of sunbeds in front of the infinity pool on different grassy levels which were in a fabulous position - you get sun all day but with the breeze from the sea and it is much quieter down there.
The sea...well, it was just beautiful. The earlier in the morning you get there, the clearer and more calm and peaceful it is. On our last day two of us went for a swim around 6am and it was one of the most amazing experiences - the water was soooo clear it was unbelievable. There are also some great cliff diving spots which a very fun activity for the teens but REALLY not safe so I wouldn't recommend it for under 14s or people who aren't strong swimmers.

One huge downside of the holiday was the evening time. This has absolutely nothing to do with the hotel - but the guests at that time of year. We went right before August, so for about 4 days the entertainment was inside the hotel. I have never witnessed such a dull group of guests so unwilling to even clap for the poor entertainers working their butts off to put on a show!! One night was a girl singer and a guy guitarist with her who sung for hours without a break and although not sensational they tried their hardest to put on a good show but the group of 7 of us was literally the only people who showed any enthusiasm! How boring!!!! Holidays are supposed to be fun and relaxing, and I think anyone who sits their with a scowl on their face and not even clapping at the end of an act should be ashamed. Again this is not the hotels fault at all but I do think it is to do with going out of season and there being a huge majority of germans, russians and other eastern europeans.

Overall we had one of our most enjoyable, relaxing holidays at the Sungarden and we would recommend it to anyone! It was absolutely fantastic.

Room Tip: Sea view is absolutely stunning

We stayed here in October 11. The hotel was about 1 mile outside the centre but this was ok for us. The hotel is perched on a small cliff and therfore there are plenty of steps and steep slopes to keep you fit! We have 2 youngs boys so this was not ideal for us but then we knew this before we booked.

The beach is a 3 minute walk down two flights of steps and along a bumpy walkway. The beach was busy but we always managed to find a couple of sunbeds and a brolly (8 euro). Although the sand is perfect for building castles the sea does get deep quickly and it could get choppy but then it was October!

There was a very good selection of drinks at the bar and the service was prompt. The food was varied and overall was good but occassionally only luke warm. The hotel would benefit from having a choice of restaurants, if only for lunch. Eating 3 meals a day in the same place for 10 days becomes a little repetitive!

We were lucky enough to book a junior suite. It was just about large enough for us and our 2 boys. The views were fantastic and it was far enough from the entertainment to be quiet.

The staff were friendly and the Thomson reps worked very hard to ensure the kids were kept entertained.

Hello! We (a family with 2 kids 6+9 yrs) just returned from a week spent at this hotel and fully enjoyed our holiday! The location is indeed great, right on low cliffs (with many small caves and an arch!), with a sandy beach just 2 mins away, looking over a crystal clear sea. Swimming was perfect even in early November! There are 3 nice outdoor pools (only for summer - not heated). Rooms in floors 3 and upwards offer great sea views...
The hotel is OK but has probably seen better days and would need some refurbishing... for instance listening to the creaking lifts! Rooms defined as "family rooms" are a bit small (like doubles, just partitioned by a sliding wall), with lack of closet space for 4 people. The bed was a small double... comfortable, but it should have been larger! Bathroom and balcony OK. Indoor pool OK for kids: they enjoyed it, just as the Kids' club. Wifi-Internet worked well in the lobby area (free).
Food appreciation is a very personal matter: we felt it was OK, but not outstanding as some guests have suggested here. We had All-In: there was always one excellent grilled dish, but for the rest it was not really inspiring... particularly some of the theme nights (Asian, Italian) ... why not stick more to Greek/Cypriot/Turkish cuisine? Desserts and ice-cream were particularly disappointing; breakfast quality/variety was very much average. As the restaurant has a low ceiling, on full evenings you had the atmosphere of a large canteen...
This said, we think the hotel was good value and could recommend it for families (kids' clubs close in winter time).

Room Tip: You have the option of a room in the main hotel or in bungalows. Best sea view from central rooms i...

We travelled to this hotel as part of a larger group of 50 people for my daughter’s wedding on October 5th 2011.
We upgraded to Deluxe junior suites with sea views and we were given room 225 which was perfect! It was an end room, opposite the indoor pool, one floor above the quiet pool (No Music) and main dining room so easily accessible to main areas. Some of our group were in rooms by the activity ‘Noisy’ larger Kids pool and were a good walk from reception also set on the hill .( One thing this hotel does not cater for is anyone with walking problems. It is virtually impossible to walk down to the beach if you are disabled due to the steep incline.)
The room was actually a lot smaller than I anticipated with a separate sleeping area with 2 sofa beds and the bathroom also was small but the balcony was large with 2 sunbeds and a parasol. There was a kettle with tea, coffee and milk etc, a mini fridge and TV and Hairdryer. The safe was 25 euros to rent.
There was a lack of drawer space and I would think for a family of 4 staying in this room type there would be difficulty in finding space to put everything and you would be cramped. It certainly doesn’t match Caribbean standards ! That said we only got changed and slept in the room – the bed was a small double and quite hard – extra pillows etc are in top of wardrobe. There wasn’t a dedicated laundry service although when we asked at reception they said we could get clothes laundered by an external company that they used. The room was clean and tidy – yes a little dated but was fit for purpose.
There is one main restaurant and an a la carte adjacent to it, which you can use for free once per stay. The restaurant manager Andreas and his deputy Yiannis are absolutely wonderful people who speak to all the guests. The service was faultless. No sooner had you put your cutlery on your plate than it was whisked away and tables were made up at lightening speed. It was apparent that they are used to catering for large families and wedding parties and so the tables were placed so that they could quickly make up tables to sit 12, or 20 people effortlessly. As others have said, the food was absolutely superb. The choice for each meal was outstanding and if anyone said they couldn’t find anything to eat then they are really sad. Breakfasts were full English- Baked beans, tomatoes, Hash browns, sausage, bacon, eggs , pancakes, waffles, fruits, yoghurts, cereals, continental meats, cakes, cereals, fruits and fresh bread rolls baked in the actual restaurant and a toaster that actually toasted bread at one attempt !! Lunch and dinner was equally as good for choice and we regularly had fresh shrimps, prawns, fish, chicken etc plus pasta dishes vegetarian options, children’s corner and salad bar plus desserts. Fresh fruit was always available plus coffee and tea etc. Each night was themed. If you need a packed lunch you just go to reception and get a ticket before 6 pm the previous day or ask Andreas . Then hand it in the restaurant and they give you the biggest take away lunch in a bag !! During the day, you can get sandwiches, sausage rolls and pizza, cheesy snaps from the pool bar to take away, so the children could always grab a snack.
The drinks selection was excellent too. You had a good choice of wines including their own ‘champagne’, all spirits, Baileys equivalent, cocktails, Frappuccino ( must try) shots all manners of teas and fruit juices. The list is endless. Some of the spirits weren’t the strongest, but they were Ok considering the quantity we all drank !!
The hotel bar and meal service was very good. We rarely had to wait for drinks at the bars, or service in the restaurant - they were always rushing around stocking up, etc and I never waited once to even get a plate in the dining room and the hotel was full to capacity. Something which is a rarity ! We did tip but even when we didn’t tip the service was the same !
The pool areas were divided into the large activity pool at the top of the hotel and 2 smaller pools- one adult only ( infinity) and another adjacent to it that everyone could use. Yes sunbeds were saved (we had to save ours as there were a lot of us ) but below the pool area on the grassy hill side there are loads of sunbeds with brollies that the older guests tended to use as it was very peaceful. They are strict inasmuch as towels cannot be placed on sunbeds before 8 am. The path to the beach was quite slippery and steep initially as the hose for cleaning your sandy feet was at the top – so the water runs down it making it deadly at times! That said it then changes to steps and a wooden walk way down to the beautiful beach in front of the Grecian Sands hotel. The beds were 2.50 euros each and the same for an umbrella. The sea was definitely warmer than the pool which was quite chilly as its not heated. In summer this would be fine but October the children felt the cold and couldn’t stay in too long.
Transport from just outside the hotel into town was 2 euros for an all day ticket or by taxi 8 euros. To walk it took about 15 minutes from the hotel to get to the monastery. Downhill was fine-coming back took longer uphill all the way !!
Regarding the wedding plans – we met with Nicos the hotel manager to discuss our options as we had 40 guests in the hotel and approx 14 other guests coming in from outside the hotel. Initially before travelling, we were told it was 85 euros per person for a day pass which we were stunned by – however having sat down with Nicos ( who has been there for many years), we negotiated a reasonable price which included all their drinks from 130 pm until 1730 which we were happy with. The night before the wedding he suggested we might like to take the entire wedding group to the a la carte restaurant which we did.
We pre ordered off the menu which had a fantastic selection – starters Eg Avocado & Shrimp , soup course, mains including stuffed pork fillet, salmon fillet, Lamb etc and then desserts with coffee. When we walked into the restaurant I think we were all stunned by how beautifully they had decorated the table and room. One huge table set with crystal clear glasses all in rows, pristine white tablecloths and chairs dressed in white linen with bows and the entire table covered in fresh flower petals. There were fairy lights all in the mesh curtains and flowers everywhere. It was so lovely and the food and service matched it ! Faultless. Absolutely superb!
The wedding day itself Nicos sent up bottles of champagne to the Bride and bridesmaids rooms and mother of the bride(Me!) so whilst we were getting ready we had drinks to hand ! The external beautician and hairdressers were allowed in to the rooms as was the videographer Marit Kyriakides, who we booked at short notice and totally recommend for a quality DVD.
The Gazebo outside is all decorated with voile drapes and flowers, white covered chairs with white bows and they provide the ring cushion, wedding cake and champagne for guests in the gazebo. Take your Music CD to Nicos – he then checks it works prior to the wedding ceremony and sorts it all out for you.
The service we received on the wedding day by the hotel was absolutely excellent and we would totally recommend. The only downer was that the grass area where you have your photos taken had been watered and so everyone in high heels had their shoes wrecked as you sank into the mud! Just double check the grass or use the path for photos but the backdrop of Cape Greco, the rocky headland and sea was stunning ! The evening reception we booked Karousos restaurant in the Ayia Napa Harbour. To get there we hired a wedding chicken bus and OMG this had to be the best part of the day – it was a fabulous experience which we will never forget ! The bridal party was driven from the hotel all through Ayia Napa with music blaring klaxons sounding tooting his horn with everyone in the bus singing and everyone outside waving at the bride and groom ! Totally recommended and great fun. We emailed the company in advance (cyprusweddings.com) and booked the ribbon colours as well Bambos was the driver= a great laugh!
The hotel evening entertainment etc we didn’t really bother with to be fair, so I can’t comment on the quality other than on the ‘hen night’ when they got the bride on stage with her hens and made them very welcome and involved in the singing on the Robbie Williams Night.
Considering this is a Thomson Superfamily hotel, all the adults had a great time, with good food and drinks, great service.
Yes there were loads of children there, but generally they were in the kids clubs and ate earlier in the evenings and we went out at night so we weren’t really affected by them for the most part.
If you are considering this hotel for a holiday and wedding venue for economy and superb service we would totally recommend it and the relationship that Nicos the manager develops with all the guests is amazing so much so, he even sees everyone off on their coaches on their departure.
