“This is a youngsters hotel, good and bad points.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2010

Having been to Ayia Napa already, a small group of us decided to go back because it’s so amazing! We booked a hotel with the twentys, they change every year, the year before we went to the Iphigenia hotel ( read my review on it ) but it wasn’t in there so we chose a different Twentys hotel. To our disbelief the DAY before we left they told us we had to move to a different hotel : the Kkaras. Being really angry at first we thought our holiday would be ruined by some random hotel, and to be honest if it weren’t for once group of boys we met we would have been there on our own.. ** BUT AFTER REALISING THE SAME HAPPENED TO A GROUP OF FRIENDS OF OURS!! Booked from the same travel agents a group of boys that we happened to be friends with got also got moved to the Kkaras a few days before flying. After a breif chat with them on the phone they said they had a good time and it did ease our worries... BUT it makes me wonder do these companies overbook certain hotels on purpose just to get more people to go and get more money? Something to think about!!! Not that it’s the hotels fault but the evidence seems to be pointing at first choice, as it happened to 2 groupd within a month of eachother! ** - The actual hotel wasn’t that bad, compared to our previous visit the rooms were better qualityin some ways. Even though we had an open plan room, with 4 beds and a bathroom, the beds were comfy, there was a tv and the bathroom was really clean and modern. The maid came most days if i can remember and it wasn’t as dirty as we had previously experienced. It was a B&B until 10am so it was handy with a hangover, we always got there at about 9.55am and they still gave us breakfast. The hotel owners are Greek ( I think ), they seem really chatty and really nice, they do make you feel welcome. We were dissapointed with the pool, it wasn’t that big and it was the same depth all the way along. The area around the pool was all paved and seemed to have random shaded areas everywhere, so luckily because it wasn’t busy we could choose where to sunbathe and move the beds around, if it was busy i can imagine people being stuck with the shaded areas.. The bar wasn’t 24 hour which was a bummer being on a clubbing holiday, after having a 24 hour bar before going to not having one makes you realise how handy it was. There is no kitchen area in the rooms, neither there was a frigde, we had to ask for one and they tried to charge us for it. After ringing back up our friends who previously stayed her they said THEY HAD A FRIDGE FOR FREE.. We complained and told the rep and he sorted it out for us.. which was really cool of him. Also because we had been moved and we were literally the only young people in the hotel apart from another group of boys the rep gave us all the twentys tickets for free, which must have mounted up to at least 150 euros each. It was only a 5 min walk from the strip, but it was the end where all the clubs are, from my own personal experience it’s good to work your way up the other end of the strip, you won’t get hassled by all the people giving out flyers, and the smaller bars try and get you to come in so give you FREE shots. It’s a really cheap night if you do it this way. On our way home our flight was late at night, but there were private showers at the pool side and even plugs and a mirror to get ready, so we chilled until the bus picked us up which wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be! Like I said in my previous review of Ayia Napa a trip to Nissi beach is needed! It’s stunning with white sand and blue clear water, there’s loads of water sports there too and bars you can have snacks. It’s a 5 min taxi ride though so be prepared to fork out a couple of euros to get there, but it’s worth it. Also the water park is awesome! Around 10 – 15 euros to get there, awsome for a day out and you really catch the sun so go towards the end of your hol to top up your tan. To summarise, good points - the staff were really nice, the B&B was really handy, the rooms were clean and the bathroom was nice ( nothing spectacular but nice for a twentys holiday ), location was only 5 min walk from the strip, and we had showering facilites to get ready before we got picked up on the way home. Bad points – there was no kitchen area in the room and they tried to charge us for a fridge, the pool isn’t deep and the sunbathing area seemed to be scattered at random, you come out at the END of the strip not the begining, which is my own personal preferance, it’s still a good location. Overall if you are with good friends you will have a good time, i still miss Ayia Napa and i will never forget the holidays i’ve had there. This wasn’t the nightmare of all hotels but I’m giving an honest review so you can judge for yourselves.. Thanks for reading, Ellie x

Well... The moment we arrived at the hotel the manager who we named Senior Winky was laying in the reception on a matress in front of the TV with a cat sitting on his chair we knew this was going to be a very funny/odd holiday. We were then led up to the apartments which were really clean a lot better than places we have stayed before no cockroaches or anything. There was a TV which showed BBC world news which I watched all the time and a fridge, safety deposit box which you could hire out and air conditioning which you could also hire out. The apartments are really close to the town centre and the beach even by my standards as I dont walk far !! It is far enough though so you cant hear the rustle and bustle of Ayia Napa life. There is a decent sized swimming pool, bar area and dinner area and an ajoining Mexican restaurant which sells amazing food !! Overall we loved the apartments everyone was really friendly they nick named my friend and me "The Dancers" they wanted us to find them some grandmothers to take back for them !! I definately would recommend Kkaras to similar young people looking for somewhere close to the nightlife without being too loud.

I stayed at this hotel in august 2000 on my 18th Birthday.

I think what people have to realise is that it's featured by 20's and tour operation specifically set up for youngsters wanting the party holiday, the rooms are basic (altough air con is a real bonus and not that expensive, especially when you intend to sleep all day). the pool is small and really is just a pool bar which stays open almost all night and day. The location to the square and beach are fantastic and if you really want to party and just some where to lay your head then this place is perfect.

We had a brilliant time and yes it's not the ritz but if thats what you want you need to pay a little bit more.

Oh dear, on arrival (0300am) the the guy who booked us in neglected to inform us about anything todo with extra charges, so just as we're about to leave the resort they demanded £50 for the use of air/con (which was broken before we arrived so it actually didnt get used once the whole time were were there), the problem being was that they wouldnt give us our passports back until we paid up, all i can say is they are con artists! walking in to our rooms we found the floor to be crawling with insects mainly cockroaches and a couple of very large spiders! what nice first experience. The room had a leak from the sink which was rotting the wood beneath it-making a rather overpowering smell, impression goes from bad to worse. To be quite honest we stayed there for 2weeks and our sheets didnt get cleaned once which i thought was unacceptable. if all your literally going to is sleep and get changed in your rooms and dont mind the constant contact with large insects then you'll be fine. but for normal people this is really a place to avoid if you can!!
p.s. if you are staying here you'll need clean sheets, pest control and a fan!?
Good Luck!!

Shabby rooms although cleaned every day but looked like there had been a punch up in it. Pool is tiny. Did not want to try food due to look of the place. Bar staff good. Bar opposite is best in Ayia Napa. Beach fantastic.
