recently stayed at grecian sands for the first time. we had an enjoyable holiday there.on booking with thomson we requested a pool view room.on arrival we were given room 116 which overlooked the tennis court. we returned to reception they were very helpful pleasant and polite. it was explained to us that a pool view room is also a sea view room which would require us to pay for an upgrade room 168 euro.we paid for this and were given a very nice room.all side sea view rooms it was explained to us overlook the tennis court.the inland rooms overlook the front of the hotel and car park. i do feel that thomsons should have informed us at the time of booking that our request for pool view could not be fullfilled.we found the hotel to be clean and well maintained.all the staff we found were pleasant polite and helpful.breakfast was the usual mix of cereals ,bread ,pastries, meat, cheese cooked breakfast.we didnt eat in the restaurant for evening meals,it was waiter service and the menu didnt appeal to us.we went into ayia napa everynight so didnt sample the hotel entertainment.its about 20 minute walk to the lively areas with bars and restaraunts on the way.or we walked along the beach to the harbour area were there are bars and nearby shops.taxis were around 6 euros from the centre to the hotel.the hotel room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. beach towels are supplied free of charge.we didnt have a problem at anytime finding a sunbed, there were plenty around the pool, gardens and man made beach.down the steps nearby is the main beach, with watersports nearby. we did the northern cyprus trip which was great for any one interested in history a very informative guide on the bus,who brought the tour to life.we visited the castle and were given 1 hour free time to see the harbour(we felt this wasnt long enough as there was much more too see) then it was onto a nearby village for lunch the meal choice was fish, chicken or vegetarian with wine. everyone seemed to enjoy, didnt hear any complaints, then it was onto visit the monastery.we hired a car for a couple of days to explore cyprus.went to limasol, paphos and larnaca.theres a large outdoor market just off the motorway on the outskirts of larnaca on a sunday morning.the roads are good and driving on the left made life easier.if you are buying cigarettes to bring home, they are sold in packs of 1600.i bought some in a local tobacco shop. i opened them to check them before travelling home. i returned them to the shop as they smelled terrible.the whites of them were stained. and didnt light as they should. the shop offered a refund or exchange straight away.we had an enyoyable two weeks at grecian sands.we were pleased with the hotel and had great weather.hope this review helps and please contact me if i can be of further help.

My fiance (now husband) and I stayed at the Grecian Sands for 2 weeks during which time we were married there. The wedding was wonderful, the staff excellent, the wedding co-ordinator experienced and helpful. We were relaxing by the pool the morning of the wedding knowing everything was getting organised just how we wanted it just a few meters away. I was pleased with the hotel, we had an instant upgrade and loads of extras thrown in.

The hairdresser Angelina did a wonderful job as did the make up lady.

I found the whole stay at the hotel most pleasant. I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone considering getting married in Cyprus.

Thank you all, (you know who you are!!)

We got married at the grecian sands hotel on 17th June 2008, the wedding was amazing, photos gorgeous and we had the best day ever.

We did encounter many problems witht the hotel - the manager being one. He was rude and not very helpful, we wanted a particular venue for our reception and even though it says free in all the brochures he wanted us to pay 250 euros for it, which we refused. We were meant to meet him a few times and he never showed up, on the morning of the wedding he was rude and arrogant to myself and the photographer as we were a few minutes late for wedding.

The room was not kept overally cleaned, i think it was the fourth or fifth day before i finally had to ask for the sheets to be cleaned as they were dirty since the day we arrived.

Didnt think hotel food was overally great either, breakfasts - not much variety, and the one night we ate in the restaurant both our meals had to be sent back and re cooked. Not nice.

On a good note, i found reception staff helpful enough when they could understand, but on one ocassion, we got a bill for mini bar, which we hadnt used, and when my husband went down to complain, i was in the shower, someone came into the room without us knowing to check it.

holiday stairways etc were very dated and carpet grubby, but reception looked nice enough, but not as fancy as portrayed in all the pictures.

dunno what else to say .................. but wouldnt be back.

My family stayed at Adams beach hotel at the other side of Ayia Napa, and it was amazing, wud go to it next time

This is the first time I have written a holiday review & I will try & make it as helpful as possible to anyone reading it. Its interesting reading other reviews as most people who leave them are at the extremes of the scale in terms of their happiness, 'love' or 'hate' and therefore very few rate as an average, 3.
The review by Dandot of Birmingham makes a lot of very true points, but the rating of terrible, I think, is very harsh. Like wise there are a lot of excellent ratings which is over generous, but when you read them you will see a common theme throughout...........the people writing them had their wedding there.
That is one of the issues I had with Grecian Sands, wedding parties are their number one focus, no stone unturned, no detail missed, people genuinely have a fantastic time/day. But a little more focus on the rest of the guests might endear them to the masses a little more.
Reception - Agree with a lot of previous comments, they are hard work on that front desk! A couple of them are ok, but when you get within a few footsteps of that desk & see the more mature lady or gent there, you know you are in for a painful few minutes, no matter what you want. Not the most impressive as you walk in either, quite old & basic looking.
Rooms - We had one of the family rooms, 107. Was great, large, sea & pool view, quiet (&freezing) air con & quiet as the walls are obviously good and the corridors are carpeted (albeit scruffily). Mini bar was very expensive, which is a theme throughout, but you can empty it & put your own stuff in, paying 2 euros a day rental. Didn't find that out until the 2nd week though after we'd had an issue with over charging for their contents.
Bar - Overpriced & only went in once out of 14 nights as the 'entertainment' consisted of various 'duo's' who looked like they were all on their farewell tours before sliding gracefully into retirement. This is an example of their wedding focus, why on earth does the hotel not make an effort to keep regular guests in there? Every hotel i've been in before, whether we've stayed in at night or not, has made an effort to keep people there with good entertainment, drink offers etc, not here. Do we get in the way of the weddings?! Cocktails were around 7 euros each too.
Restuarant - Good service, plenty of staff. Its table d'hote, only the salad is buffet style so its good when you have kids as you can actually relax a bit and eat hot food. There was something different each night & the various meats & fish were very good, shame they were always accompanied by frozen veg though. The manager ate in their every night so he must either like them or the difference they make to his profits!
They have a couple of Cypriot nights a week which are good and involve a bbq outside on 1 of them.
Had breakfast a few times, not bad, usual sort of stuff & usual problems with toast. Two choices, bread or burnt!
Pool area - Pool great, never known one so hot, very clean & kids had a great time. Hotel gives you towels each day & the sunbeds are all padded.
Pool bar - Food good, incredibly over priced food & drinks again though. Pint of beer 4.30 euro, 2 halves 6 euro! Staff serving behind bar have got major attitude problems & need to blame their own manner & their hotels prices for not getting many tips!
Gym - Oh my god, maybe I didn't need much talking out of using it on holiday but it certainly didn't entice you into it. It looked like a scene from Famagusta, untouched since Turkish invasion 30 yrs ago and most things unusable with red tape round them.
Beach - Man made beach next to pool area, always seemed popular but was very corse sand. Main beach down a few steps, was great. Busy but not over crowded, usual stuff there, jet skis, peddlos etc. 7.50 euros for 2 beds & umbrella.
Surrounding area - 15 minute walk into town. Got a taxi one night & got ripped off, 12 euros and we weren't even in the centre. There was a good fair for kids which we found in our second week. Some very good bars, Bitters was our favourite, only 3 euros there for a pint and most cocktails were not much more. We ate out a few times at Quadro after finding that one night. Excellent food, location, service & price. Would go B&B or room only next time & eat out each night having seen the restuarants around.
Water park was only a short taxi ride away (we asked in advance this time & it was cheap!) and was a great day out. Discount tickets were available in the hotel reception and it cost about 30 euros for adults & 15 for kids. All 3 kids did get ear infections though & ear plugs are definitely recomended.
Weather was incredible while we were there and we did have a great time. Just to qualify the average rating i've given, the hotel was good but it wasn't good enough to make us come here agian without looking elsewhere first. And when they've had you there for 2 weeks, that really is a missed opportunity on their behalf.

Managed to get a really good deal here, and I'm so glad we held out til the last minute for this place. The hotel was great considering we got it at such a reasonable price. The rooms have all been recently refurbished and are really clean. Had a couple of issues with the cleaners not doing a completely thorough job though.

Our room was at the front of the hotel which doesn't have the best view and is a little noisy in the mornings, but it didn't bother us too much.

Breakfast is good but we ate out in the evenings. The beach is nice and clean, but didn't really like the sand on the man-made beach as it was so coarse.

It's about a 15 minute walk into the centre which is exactly what we wanted, and it's a pleasant walk down into town. There's a little Polynesian restaurant that I'd highly recommend. It's on one of the rooftops and is quite romantic, unusual for this part of Cyprus I'd say.

Overall it was a great holiday, although it did absolutely pour with rain for a few days. Guess we're used to that in the UK though!!

We have just returned from a week at the Grecian Sands Hotel where we had the best ever wedding. Our sea view room was massive, with an amazing view over both the pool and the beach. Susanne our wedding coordinator at the hotel was fantastic, everything was perfect and nothing was too much trouble. The food, wine, surroundings and disco were fantastic and a brilliant value for money. We booked our holiday through Maria at Thomas Cooke Cardiff, who couldn't do enough for us, she was superb, her knowledge of the area was top class. Our Thomas Cooke wedding rep Kate was very helpful in the lead up to the event and on the day. She helped us to arrange a photographer and we had a DVD done by Steve at Still productions. The photos were top quality, but watching the DVD blew our minds, Steve...its amazng! Even down to Angeline, the top class hair dresser who put up with my nerves on the morning of the wedding. My hair stayed in all day, no movement at all!
All in all, we had the greatest day we could have imagined, we wouldn't change a thing. Thankyou all, Abi + Matt R
