For a supermarket cafeteria the food is AMAZING.Typical Algarvian dishes of the day - all delicious. You can have fresh meat or fish cooked while you wait, a pizza or pasta dish cooked from scratch in front of your very eyes. You can help yourself to fresh salad and drinks.Value for money is absolutely unbelievable. You could eat there for a week for the cost of a weeks food shopping.

Pingi Doce is a large supermarket in Almancil and within it is a brilliant little cafeteria. Great for that quick pick me up coffee after shopping with delicious little pastries. My personal favourite is a Cafe Galou (a milky coffee served in a tall glass) and a Pastel de Nata ( custard tart) with the tastiest flaky pasty and filling ever! This costs about €1:80. when you enter the cafeteria area you take a numbered ticket from either the machine marked take away or Sit In. Your number will then come up on an overhead screen and I've always found the staff to be very helpful and most speak English well but if not it's all to easy to point out what you want from the vast array on offer. There is lots of tables to sit at, all spotlessly clean as are the toilets. They also have a restaurant with set opening times. Food is as you would expect, typically Portuguese fare but also pastas etc. good tasty food and excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend the cafeteria tho!

Good food - four of us ate for 10 euros.Varied choice including chips, rolls, fruit and juices. Well worth a visit as most restaurants are expensive.

If you are travelling on a budget or even if you aren't, check out the 5-euro meals at the supermrket, Pingo Doce. They have a separate cafeteria area which also has a coffee bar. For 5 euros you get a full main course plate with 2 veg, a drink and dessert. There are hot dishes such as chicken etc but highly recommended is the grilled fish (or meat ) which is cooked to order before your eyes, fresh and always cooked to perfection. Oh and did I mention the drink can be a small beer? Or private label water or soft drinks. Yesterday one of the desserts offered was pears poached in port or other wine. You couldn't cook these meals for 5 euros. There is also a salad bar option. Very popular with locals on lunch break from work.
