“Good hotel for family vacation -needs some fixes to become ideal”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

Avantis is ideal for a family vacation. Very close to town of Eretria, and within one hour distance from Athens.
The hotel provides spacious, clean rooms built around a swimming pool, a few paces from the beach. The rooms have sound-proof windows -very good isolation during day and night! Excellent breakfast in terms of variety and quality, and excellent drinks at the bar.
Daily recreation for children of all ages by a very talented, flexible and energetic young lady who is doing much more than required in order to keep the children happy and going!
Hotel management though, needs to take care some of some issues in order for this hotel to become even more attractive to guests...
1. The taverna. The selection is limited and "gourmet style", with no flexibility regarding what a young child (aged 2-3yrs) can eat. There are some daily dishes, but portions are small and overpriced. No seats for babies, you need to bring your own. For a hotel hosting mostly families the menu and the seating should be seriously reconsidered.
2. The kitchenette. There is nothing in it... In order to prepare or heat up something for your child, you need to have brought your own equipment. Luckily the reception had informed us during our reservation, but still, respecting the overall hotel quality, the kitchenette should provide at least the basics and not ask the guests to carry their own cooking pans from home.

Overall a very nice hotel for a family vacation -everything is provided at the grasp of your hand! If management takes care of some small items, then the establishment will become ideal and the guests will be coming back every year!

Very nice hotel for family vacation, but I don't recommend it for a young couple, since it was too noisy from the kids plaing at the pool all day long. We had to stay with the windows closed in the room, because we couldn't sleep due to the voices. However, the room was very clean and large. Very friendly staff. It made us a very good impression that one day that we didn't make it to be on time for breakfast (40 minutes late) and we were ready to go to a cafeteria, someone from the staff asked us if we had our breakfast and when we told him that we overslept, he offered to take us to the dining room where we had a number of choices to drink and eat.
The hotel is near to Athens and you can also make a day trip to Chalkida.

Beautiful place, very kind people. Only 2 'but's:
- there is nothing in the kitchenette, so we had to go out for dinner every day,
- music is on from 08:00 to 00:00. Too loud, you hear it everywhere, also on the balconies...... The only way to avoid it, is closing all windows and doors.

Clean, spacious, luxurious rooms. Excellent, dedicated, smiling staff. Exquisite cuisine!
Talk to Stelios at the bar, he will be happy to offer yummy cocktails, he will also not hesitate in helping you choose the perfect cocktail for yourself.
The waiters are all professionals and always have a genuine smile for you.
Chef Vaggelis Tsimenis will excite your sense of taste. The flavors he creates are just HEAVENLY!
As for the owners I will say this: George Kalfas (owner and manager of the establishment) and his wife are happy, social and very kind. Also they will not hesitate to help you with any inquiries you might have.
All in all we felt a heartfelt welcome when we got there and it continued to be like that throughout our stay.

Thanks for everything Mr. George!

The rooms are cheap, the staff is helpful but the owner is terrible. We found a moulded piece of cheese in our food and they did not even apologise, of course they insisted to pay the food as nothing happened. The food was terrible, noise was everywhere from all around the area, the safe was not working and they did not come to check it although we complained immediately and we did stay 5 days.

We selected this hotel for our first holiday with our 12 month old daughter. We picked this one because of the close proximity to Athens, the private beach and the restaurant right under the rooms, the pool, the fair price and of course the hotel being just outside the town and thus more quiet.

The room we were in was on the first floor, it was huge and thoroughly cleaned. It looked new, nicely decorated and with a nice looking kitchen which, however, was not fully equipped as the hotel advertises and had the most basic of things. Thankfully we had brought our own things!
We had a big balcony overlooking the sea with the pool right underneath us, and although it was hot during the day, we spent the cooler nights there. The bathroom was very clean, even for our own (high) standards.

I gave the sleep quality an average, not because of the matresses which were very comfortable indeed, but because of the noise. The Grand Bleu hotel which is a few meters away, had a party every night with very loud music during our stay. Also keep in mind that the hotel organizes wedding celebrations with late night parties every now and then. Luckily there are soundproof windows in every room and all these are not that much annoying.

We had a dive or two in the pool, it's best on weekdays when there's not too many people around. It wasn't the cleanest but considering the almost 10 hour usage by so many people, it was ok.

The hotel restaurant was very nice, good quality meals and decent prices. Everything from the menu, plus some extra daily dishes, was excellent. Breakfast was a basic continental buffet, with enough options. Milk, coffee, juice and tea; bread, omelet, ham and cheese, yogurt, honey, cereals and the occasional sausage pies, cheese pies and mini croissants.

The town of Eretria is a long walk if you are up for it, otherwise its 3 minutes by car or you can get one of the hotel bicycles for a nice ride in the country. I don't know if they charge you for them though.

Overall a good hotel, I would recommend it for families only, as couples may find the children running around, playing and yelling (especially in the pool area) a bit disturbing. It is also very crowded on weekends as I wrote earlier, so you can try to fit a few weekdays in your holiday, as the hotel seemingly has lees than half rooms occupied then.

Decided to stay for a weekend at AVANTIS Hotel, but I immediately checked out when I realised that the manager had put a CCTV camera both at the pool area and at the corridors outside the rooms. You may say that I over-reacted, but I don't want to be followed by cameras during every step I take, plus that this is completely illegal in Greece.
