Went up to the Lake District for a short break to do some walking and running. Arrived with no real route ideas and the staff suggested an excellent walk on Crinkle Crags and an enjoyable run round Rydal and Grasmere.

Hostel was impressively located with superb views; a really relaxing place to spend an evening.

Stayed here in 2010 and again in 2013 for a week on a UK tour. For a couple of nights we were the only guests. Wonderful staff, best location, best value. A Victorian mansion that is so quiet when empty and even when full is so big that you can still find your own personal space. Tired and in need of a make-over that I hope does not happen as it will spoil a gem. Will be back in a couple of years!

Stayed here for 2 nights and it was great. Staff friendly and helpful. Location is slightly out of Elterwater and part of the attraction. Self service kitchen was very good. Beds and bedding comfortable. 1st day had glorious weather and the 2nd day just got wetter. I was smart enough to spend the 1st day in the Langdale Pikes. I have stayed in a few hostels now both home and abroad and i have to say that Langdale does need a lot of repairs. Great place but now been hurt by it's beautiful and remote location. I recommend a stay for all you hikers.

One could argue over the need for a refurbishment or the worn and tired looks of certain areas of the venue...

Considering though that this YH is in the very heart of the magnificent Lake District, just slightly out of Elterwater there is probably no where else you'd rather stay.

You'll find the most magnificent social room with an open fire i've seen so far, good facilities (drying rooms, self-catering kitchen), cold ales... Dinner and Breakfast were very good. Staff were very nice and helpful.

Best ever value for the money. Thanks to YHA Langdale and Miranda especially!

I wish I hadn't been flying through on my stay at this hostel as it is a splendid place which is like a slightly neglected but comfortable stately home with large social areas. Arriving at dusk it felt like something out of a gothic novel standing high on a hill in secluded grounds amongst the scots pines. A warning - don't make the mistake that I made of thinking that it is near Great Langdale or the Cumbria Way because of the name, as it is neither but do stay for a few days in order to appreciate the lovely setting.

Room Tip: Take a multi socket extension cable as there are very few sockets for charging things or maybe leave the phone at home? It is a mile or so from Elterwater and the local bus
