I visited here on the 29th-31st of October 2012 as part of my geography degree trip and it was a lovely little place. I was amazed it was so far up the hillside as the coach dropped us off in Elterwater, I wouldn't recommend the youth hostel if you have mobility issues as there is quite a steep bank to walk up unless you have a car. The staff were great and made lovely meals, I honestly couldn't fault it. It was nip and tuck for what you pay and the domitaries have good sturdy beds. However, if you do stay in a big domitary bring an extension plug as there was only 3 sockets in ours. The youth hostel has great views and is lovely and peaceful. Would recommend visiting Ambleside and taking a walk in Elterwater.

Room Tip: Big domitaries don't have many plugs. We had a room at the back of the hostel looking onto the h...

I have stayed at Langdale Youth Hostel many times and am never disappointed. The best location, great walks on its doorstep, a warm welcome each visit and a high standard of cleanliness. The building is atmospheric, comfortable and spacious. Always sad to leave and always keen to return.

Langdale Youth Hostel is not a hostel, it's a haven. The views on our arrival were like "wow"!
Miranda and her team do an excellent job in maintaining the facilities and making sure your individual needs are met. They are a really friendly and approachable team and do this historic building proud. I can only descrie the place as happiness on a hillside.
This was our first experience of staying in a youth hostel, but it certainly won't be my last, the views are to die for! I was beyond impressed.
Intially, we had only booked one night's accomodation, but ended up staying for three, enough said.
I spent many happy hours sitting out on the veranda, I really felt priviledged to be there. The forest is enchanting, the landscape is magical, I couldn't believe how relaxed I felt there.
Watching the rain fall and the mist roll in over the peaks, was the perfect chill out zone for me. You can confidently book a trip here, there is something for everyone. Your kids will love the wild bunny rabbits with the white pom pom tails and there's a very cute sheep who pops up at teatime. An unforgettable stay and well worth a visit. Thank you to all the staff who make it special.

We had wanted to go to ambleside but found that Langdale was half the price. We spent the whole time there thankful for that. Our route through Ambleside was very crowded and touristy and then suddenly we found ourselves in the middle of the "mountains" away from the world. There is plenty to do there - walks and a great common room full of games etc. The kids enjoyed the games room down in the cellar and also the many rabbits and lone sheep in the grounds. They could do with another fridge in the kitchen - which did get crowded at one point but apart from that the kitchen is well equipped. Just be warned that it really is designed for large groups so many of the rooms are near either boys or girls washrooms etc. Our room was near 2 unisex toilets and one unisex shower which got more clogged up than the others.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front share the unisex toilets which get clogged up but on the other hand are probably...

This was our first YHA experience and it won't be the last! After a busy day at the zoo Barrow and wanting to visit Bowness, we decided to stay overnight somewhere near Windermere. This stay could have been really pricey for parents, grandparents and four kids. Langdale YHA was the perfect solution. We had a great stay, with a cooked meal in the evening and the freedom of the grounds and games rooms. The kids loved having a kick about on the lawn with their dad, as well as trying table tennis, fuzzball and pool. Breakfast was full English with a continental option. We shared two rooms with bunk beds which caused some hilarity but were clean and very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and polite. Well done!! The only problem is that although only a couple of miles from Ambleside it is very isolated and along a narrow road.

Another day, another YHA! But not just any YHA - Langdale YHA with views across to the Old Man, Langdales and many more. What a gem of a hostel, friendly and welcoming (the sheep dog) and the staff too!

This place is well worth the walk, cycle or drive to because as soon as you step into the grounds the magic begins. The victorian mansion is set in stunning gardens with a terrace and veranda facing to the South West, so you can enjoy the warmth of the sun on your feet whislt keeping the ice from your drinks from melting too quickly! Relaxing on the terrace, we closed our eyes and listend to the evening chorus - an oasis of peace.

There are many places in the lakes with the hustle and bustle of the maddening crowds, YHA Langdale is two steps back from them, set in magical grounds. Well worth a visit!

Room Tip: Book in advance for meals, excellent value, cooked fresh and not alot of other places to eat near by...

We went for a day to the hostel for a friend's wedding reception. We were lucky in that it was the warmest weekend of the year so we were able to make the most of being outside of the hostel to enjoy the grounds and the breathtaking views.

I haven't been ton a youth hostel for about 30 years but it was great to be back and remember everything that makes youth hosteling such fun, not least the unfailing friendliness of the staff and the general togetherness. The hostel itself is a quirky and very interesting building with a lovely verandar wrapped around the front of the building. The earing areas were beauitfully laid out for the wedding reception and the disco in the cellar was great fun. Parts of the building do, of course, look in need of a little TLC but that Ll adds to the charm of being in a youth hostel.

The views from the track that takes you above the building are a must for any visitor,
