Twenty five members of Stockport Walking and Outdoor group recently spent a memorable weekend at Langdale Youth Hostel. We were fortunate in having a group deal which proved very economical, though in no way was the quality of the included food compromised. Although most of the accomodation is in dormitories, smaller rooms are available for families. The hostel is magnificently located in several acres of National Trust arboretum, giving magnificent views over to Windermere. It is possible to walk over to the Langdale Pikes directly from the hostel, its elevated position making the climb much easier. The hostel staff were all very friendly and knowlegable. We hope it will not be too long before we make a return trip.

We went for the weekend to hostel as my partner wanted to do some serious hill cycling. On arrival we warmly welcomed by the Manager who gave us details about evening meal. The hostel is located in a fantastic and the hostel is a beautiful building. The communal rooms are very relaxing and the games rooms are really well resourced.

The menu for the evening meal was great and was the breakfast was beyond what we expected! All the staff were really friendly and my children aged 7 and 10 loved the resident dog Wag.My youngest was so pleased to get a picture of Wag on his last day.

We have been to various YHA hostels across the country and this is our favourite one !

we are all ready planning our next trip there!

Room Tip: book the breakfast it's fab!

Our daughter and her fiance booked the whole of the Langdale Youth Hostel to celebrate getting married. They had a lovely humanist ceremony in a beautiful atmospheric hall, watched by many friends and family. The hostel was very clean and perfectly satisfactory in every way. The staff went out of their way to make everything as perfect as possible and were so very pleasant, kind, welcoming and helpful. The breakfasts were superb with choices of fruit, yoghurt, full English cooked breakfast and croissants, toast, etc. Fabulous!
If you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere, in a wonderful part of the Lake District, within easy walking distance of the open Fells and enjoying beautiful views, you could not choose a better place. This is not a bijoux hotel but instead, the most terrific place for a 'get together' with friends who are happy to share rooms, The children of the party loved the quirky hostel and enjoyed a sense of freedom in the grounds and different public rooms. I loved the building but best of all were the helpfulness of the staff and the great breakfasts!Sleeping in bunk beds and sharing rooms with other (snoring) people was less delightful but I knew what to expect before we went.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

It s great location, with large gardens for playing in. Virtually no traffic on the road, so extremely quiet. Lovely building, with splendid and impressive communal rooms. There a games room downstairs with a pool table and huge gardens for playing. In the summer I can imagine croquet or badminton on the lawns. We ere there in September, with mist rolling up the valley, shrouding the trees with their yellowing leaves. It looked truly magical. And with the massive hills nearby, peeping out atop the clouds, it made for spectacular views in the morning. Breakfasts were substantial and provided the fuel for a good walk. The YHA location makes it ideal base for walking to Little Langdale, Great Langdale, Grasmere, Ambleside and up any of the many pikes (hills) in the area. There is a large drying room, which proved essential after one very soggy walk. Evening meals were substantial and good value. And the staff aways provided friendly and helpful service. We will probably return in February to take advantage of their cheap rates over the winter months.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 1a and 1b are on the ground floor, handy if your group has oldsters with dodgy knees who...

I have stayed here on numerous occasion with large groups and on my own. I have stayed in most Lake District YHA, but this is my favourite.

The hostel is set i'n stunning grounds abs the hostel itself is an ok'd Victorian house with a veriander wrapping around the front of the building which is the perfect spot for relaxing after a hard days walking.

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the evening meals are to a good standard. If you prefer to cook there a good size, well equipped members kitchen.

The rooms are very comfortable, the only down size is there is only one plug per room which is problematic in a dorm with 9 woman. Showers can be bit cold if your first one in.

Great base if your doing any walks in the Langdale Valley.

All in all a top lake district YHA.

soo enjoy my time spent there,
the house from the outside has some strong character
with this very strong nature around, hill, lake, with the fogg coming down the hills, giving the impression of being in some mystical places... ready to see some imaginary creatures coming up the lake...
the hostel is up hill, so you have nice view, near by a lake where sweet to swim...
i have enjoyed staying there, the friendlyness of the hotel team helped me to feel fully at ease and at home....
i recommend strongly!!!

This is wonderful place to bring a large group for a shared experience. It is spacious and robust, in a stunningly beautiful place, with friendly, flexible and willing staff. A great setting to experience and build community, AND its location allows all ages and levels of fitness to enjoy the deep peace and outdoor possibilites of The Lake District.
